Had a bit of an issue with a portable Western Digital hard drive, specifically the one where I store my photo archive. It's not an SSD, and it's now 10 years old. As far as usage goes, it's very rarely been plugged in, only to upload or retrieve some photos from time to time. However, I use a very similar model, that's not 7 or 8 years old as well, as external storage on the Xbox, and that thing has been going for years without any issues, experiencing quite intensive usage.
Thing is, I now plugged it in, only to find some photo folders empty, and a few others with weird upload dates, like 2030. Unless there are hard drive-eating gremlins in that drawer, nobody tampered with it, so it's probably simply loss of data over time. Besides immediately copying the remaining stuff to a new drive, any advice for data recovery?
