Right now it looks like a "weak Tsunami" caused most of the damage in the capital, but some of the smaller islands are still cut off from the rest of the world, because one major internet cable failed during the eruption. Lots of ash as well.

The capital has a reef between it and the volcano hence the smaller wave. There are now reports of bigger waves on outer islands that are more concerning.

The EU also already used their Copernicus system to get radar images of the volcanic island where the eruption took place. It is gone, Krakatoa style.

And BTW - 1.2 - 1.8 m wave is huge for a volcanic tsunami. Especially if the place has no tsunami protection at all and the wave arrives without warning.

Its the MBT LAW weapon.

The guidance system is essentially the same as for WW2 torpedoes - just made of modern components and not relying on electromechanical computers.

Indeed - those WW2 relicts weren't even used in training since the 1960s. The Carl Gustav (or 84) already has many aging problems - the launcher is still found in many NATO depots, but the ammo is too old to be fired.

That is arguable... The UK is a NATO member, and if Putin takes the Ukraine, NATO will have to deal with the consequences in one way or another, sooner or later...

Exactly. Its a matter of perspective there, note that the only difference of Ukraine joining the NATO is the distance from NATO territory to Moscow, not the fact of a common border (See Kaliningrad there)

Of course I would be terribly upset, if I would be ruling in Moscow. Thats a checkmate.

At the same time, the other option of simply letting Russia have their way with Ukraine, would be more of a disaster for the EU, than for the NATO. Of course, its understandable to be partial there.

The big issue is that the US being in NATO and Eastern Europe being in NATO are both good ideas, but not simultaneously. Problem is, if either the US or Eastern Europe leaves NATO (or isn't admitted for Ukraine et al.), then Putin will take liberties with Eastern Europe. And if both remain in NATO, in particular with more Russian border states joining, then Putin will (or will claim to) feel threatened enough to start a war. The situation is on a knife edge, and I'm not sure western leadership is cluefull enough, or Putin trustworthy enough, for there to be a happy ending.

UK politics is occupied at the moment trying to figure out if Prime Minister knows what a party is(Boris lying to Parliament). Could finish him.

No appetite here for direct involvement in Ukraine. Special forces, training, logistics, air power/anti-aircraft as far as it goes.
Would expect UK to back up NATO, but British troops shooting at Russian forces will not go down well.

Also, nobody wants to shoot anybody right now. And if this starts to happen, British forces shooting at Russian forces will be the least of our worries.
