Lovely bit of animation.

So, our most corrupt politican got jailed today, a day after his party lost the europarliamentaries . I never thought I'd see this happen. https://www.euronews.com/2019/05/27...l-politician-sentenced-to-jail-for-corruption

They waited to see how the elections went. But that's alright. Dude had gotten so dangerous, he even had a politcally appointed Special Investigations unit, legally impervious to all inquiry, which mostly went after the prosecutors investigating the corrupt politicians, but judges were by no means off-limit.

Edit: wanted to post in Basement, now I can't delete it anymore

I have been living a lie for the past 20 years.

I always thought I am 184 cm. But I measure 188 cm...

What fact is dying next?

Have you lost weight between then and now?
Were you under 25 two decades years ago?

Maybe the urwumpe has been re-defined, like the ur-meter the ur-kilogram and all the other urs...

I was between 18 and 20 and measured and measured and measured... I had been joining the army around that time, and since I applied for officer career, I enjoyed the full treatment. I think I had my height measured about a dozen times alone until I was 25. It never exceeded 185 until I was 30.

And I lost 17 kg last year in a few months...

Probably the weight loss. Same thing happened to me when I took up running and started losing weight. Gained 1 cm or two. Though, I'm not sure if the body is un-squeezing itself or it's simply having a straighter back that helps with the height increase.

Well, but 4 cm would be like me having spent 6 months in microgravity, about 3% more is observed then. (Sadly not.)

I suspect, I was simply measured badly. I have a slight hyperlordosis (seems to be genetic, my son also has it), maybe that also affects how large I appear to be.

Nah, the other 7 billion of us just got together and made significant changes to the definitions of the meter and kilogram without telling you, just to play a practical joke on you, personally (or, given the effort involved, an impractical joke).

you mean like defining a new Pi, which is exactly 3 by using non-euclidean geometry?

An orphaned and starving racoon cub just found and followed us, we are getting it to a wild animal specialist right now. Was badly scared because of the two dogs, but became surprisingly calm when wrapped into a sweatshirt.

I think I'll get myself a new toy on June 1st
I hope my "local" LEGO store has it by then...

While we're talking LEGO...I would really love to see this one get real, but I doubt that the 5'000 votes needed for the next step will be reached in 60ish days :(

The odds for the alternative doesn't look any better.

But maybe I find instructions / brick-list of one of those.

Fascinating... The NASA technical reports server not only contains documents about German Zeppelins, but also about the Soviet Tu-144, because of a joint flight test program with a reactivated and improved Tu-144L in the 1990s...

I have discovered the true origins of the Kerbals, and that the universal last name of all Kerbals is not actually "Kerman".

The secret lies in docking ports.

Clamp-O- Clampett-Tron

From here, it is not a stretch at all to conclude that Jebediah Kerman is in fact none other than Jed Clampett.

Humanity is for the most part gone, and Earth is a wasteland, but, although heavily mutated by the radiation, the Beverly Hillbillies somehow escaped the nuclear holocaust and made the stars their home, sailing through the void in machinery as unreliable as the old jalopy that brought them to LA.

This actually explains quite a lot.

Since some of you are probably interested, this is the main reason I was in Europe:

Hopefully some even understand what I am on about.

I've come to know what audio torture feels like, and I don't even mean I listened to commercial radio for extended periods. One of the farmers nearby set up a bird repeller gas cannon. Initially, I thought someone was using a crappy muffler on a hunting rifle; since it kinda sounds like a muffled gunshot. Every few minutes there's a thud. It sounds exactly as if some soft thing/animal were banging against the walls of the house.
I think it's a bit of a feud with one of the neighbors; since he put it really close to his house, when he could have chosen the other side of the field where there are no houses. I'm 100 m away and there are trees in the way and I still hear it clearly. Can't imagine how it must sound in that guys house . But hey, he complained about the smell of manure used as fertilizer, at least now it doesn't stink

I just had another "That's what I do. I drink and I know things" moment at work...

A script fails with a nonsense error message and a few minutes of typing Linux commands later, you have the evidence that the Oracle DB ran out of table space.

Reminds me of the ultrasonic rodent repellents which are popular around here in all kinds of malls and shops. They are supposed to be inaudible to humans, but i happen to have an abnormal left ear which can hear up to 19KHz or so. I can see why it works on rodents - the skull-drilling intermittent whine they give out is pretty darn annoying.
Fortunately, i don't have to stay around.
