Initializing a hardware register with the contents of a clock register?

I'm getting in my final class project assignments, done in Matlab. I think some of them think that their shoe size is an important parameter to getting this code to work. :huh: "Unexpected behavior" doesn't quite describe what I am seeing.

Urwumpe's epic post count recently overflowed the maximum value that can fit inside a signed, 16-bit integer value. The staff spent most of last weekend upgrading the forum software to use unsigned 16-bit integers for post count fields in order to support up to 65,535 posts per user*. Although we were able to complete the upgrade in time, we very nearly had to start auto-hard-deleting any posts that would overflow the 32,767 post threshold*.

* Not really.

Which immediately makes me wonder: Just what kind of Database would this thing have to be running on to even make that feasible? :lol:

/me imagines the forum running on some BBS package from before the dawn of time, running on top of Netware 2.x, with an IP-to-IPX gateway and 20 other compatibility shims somewhere in the mix to make it accessible over http on the Internet.

/me goes mad from imagining such a monstrosity.

/me walks out to the chatbox and hooks up hoses to the pentaborane and ClF3 flood valves.

/me screams "Kill it with fire! Kill it with fire!" and turns on the hoses.

FOOM!!!

I wanted to be the first with -32768 posts. :(

If you spam the forums really hard, you might be first to -2147483648, or even -18446744073709551616.

I doubt i could get that far in a lifetime with my roundtrip times. :lol: I would need to insert some SQL there... like "BEGIN; UPDATE orbiterforum.users u SET u.postcount=-18446744073709551616 WHERE u.username='Urwumpe'; COMMIT;";

I would say, its Christmas now. ;)

Why????

Who would pay for such an obscure thing such as this flight???

It's not unprecedented:

If one has to do a long-range test flight, might as well make it a bit silly! :)

:lol: Wow!! I had no idea this was a thing. Well, I guess you can also quickly and easily gauge the accuracy of the navigation! bonus!

Ya know. Those Navy guys might have gone overboard with their fun. And the punishment was equally silly. But they are never going to buy their own booze in the O-club. Ever.

They were grounded, doing some desk duty and some crappy hanger inspections like broom closet inventory, smoking area clean-up or something equally silly and pointless. The only west coast airedale I know is with a VQ squadron at Lemoore, I'll see if I can get some straight dope on what he pilots had to do for punishment. They should be back in the air by now. Flight profficiency (and pay) is based on a required number of hours in the air per month (traps and cat-shots from a nearby carrier too if one's available). Doesn't matter how annoyed someone is with a flight crew, benching them for too long costs too much money to make up the training time.

Honestly though, I can predict the squadron CO probably looked at both of them, facepalmed and said something along the lines of "If I ain't already got enough crap to deal with..." (edited for content)

Looked like an Arby's hat to me.... :shrug:

It was a Growler crew out of Whidbey, right? I'm local(ish) to the area now... I'll put my ear to the ground here too and see what I can shake loose.

Bought a modem and router (sold together) from Amazon so I could stop renting from my ISP.
I made sure to buy CAT6 cables at the same time since one review mentioned that the included cable would be CAT5 10/100Mbps and I have 150Mbps Internet (and maybe higher in the future).
Connected the modem to my PC to get it setup. Shows as 1.0Gbps. Great!
Connect modem to router and then router to PC. Shows as 100.0Mbps. What??
I did not notice that, despite the router being AC dual band i.e. theoretically capable of over 800Mbps wireless, the WAN and LAN ports are all 10/100Mbps! UGH!

Pro tip: "Fast Ethernet" refers to 100Mbps. It's not just a marketing phrase.

How much does it cost to rent the modem / router from your ISP? The equipment is included in the price in Slovenia and to my knowledge, you can't even replace the modem with your own. I also cannot imagine it being financially viable to actually buy your own modem and have it pay off...

Also, the modems on loan to us act as routers, including wifi. It's been like that for ~10 years...
