Yep, X-Plane's night lighting is slightly improved compared to FSX's. 10 years do make a difference, it seems.

Have you looked at Real Terra Haze? I haven't installed in X-Plane 11 yet but as if X-Plane 10's night lighting wasn't already awesome, it made it 1,000 times better and made daytime haze & cloud lighting that much more realistic. Fully customize-able with options to save presets.

Never mind. I just discovered that as of 10.50 the dev no longer supports it due to changes in the datarefs.

That's extremely disappointing. This was a must-have addon that vastly improved the visuals.

Not really. They just found it in the forest and brought it back home. They did not even know it was a bomb - their caretaker just got nervous about the strange corroded metal tube and directly called the emergency services.
