ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
Any meteor experts here?
For my first flight in the Dash 8, it didn't go too horribly.
Could the plane be used again after landing?![]()
Sounds like my skills in landing the MiG-21bis in DCS. I rate my landings between: "Almost survived" and "Just needs a bit of paint"
Just treat it like a landing Orbiter and don't cut thrust until touchdown![]()
I've seen today (about hour ago) something that appeared like pretty big meteor. While I'm no expert it looked very similar to many meteor photos I've seen. Streak was moving pretty slowly and no sonic boom appeared. Thing was moving in west-north-west direction.
Streak was white-yellow on the front moving to greenish/blue on the back.
Quick web search makes me belive it was one of Taurids.
I've taken some time to take photo outside window and superimposed drawing of what I've seen (trying to keep scale and brightness of the event).
Any meteor experts here?
It's not actual meteor photo but recreation

Yeah, the distances for reentry of a Space Shuttle and terminal approach of a MiG-21 are similar.
This?Well... what else to say
Visual checks suggest the cool bird has exited the launch zone. Tip the rocket sideways and resume the countdown--we're gonna go find it!

Well... what else to say:

Uh, you've attached the same picture in both cases.
Hm, "used"...what is the price for scrap aluminum right now? I'm asking for...a friend. :shifty:
