Random thought:

Someone posted Nena's 99 Luftballoons in the runaway blimp thread, and it made me think of good 1980s nuclear/cold war songs...

Distant Early Warning - Rush
2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden
Stand or Fall - The Fixx

Just off the top of my head. I know there are tons more. While the Maiden tune is awesome, the number of New Wave tunes (and that album was as close as Rush ever got to new wave) with really dark themes is interesting.

I would say some other songs are much stronger in that category:

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes
Deep Purple - Child in Time
Motörhead - Orgasmatron

Isn't Child in Time a 70s tune? Still awesome, of course, but if we're going 70s you have to include multiple Black Sabbath tunes and stuff.

Some new pixel art. Mostly experimenting with object placement, and more importantly, dithering.

I've seen today (about hour ago) something that appeared like pretty big meteor. While I'm no expert it looked very similar to many meteor photos I've seen. Streak was moving pretty slowly and no sonic boom appeared. Thing was moving in west-north-west direction.

Streak was white-yellow on the front moving to greenish/blue on the back.

Quick web search makes me belive it was one of Taurids.

I've taken some time to take photo outside window and superimposed drawing of what I've seen (trying to keep scale and brightness of the event).

Any meteor experts here?

It's not actual meteor photo but recreation

For my first flight in the Dash 8, it didn't go too horribly.

Certainly no meteor expert, but I've seen something similar a few months ago. Thing was so damn bright and appeared so large I fully expected to hear a faint boom a few seconds after it passed. Of course that didn't happen.

Could the plane be used again after landing? :)

Sounds like my skills in landing the MiG-21bis in DCS. I rate my landings between: "Almost survived" and "Just needs a bit of paint"

Meanwhile, my tour of Italy continues:

Just treat it like a landing Orbiter and don't cut thrust until touchdown :P

Yeah, the distances for reentry of a Space Shuttle and terminal approach of a MiG-21 are similar.

I recall seeing something almost as spectacular a little over a year back. Was doing a camp tour with a group and this fireball streaked in real slow right behind the group. Thing was pretty bright for a split second and then it just fragmented and disappeared. Was really hoping there would be a boom, but nada. Whole event was on the order of 5~ seconds.

Subsequent research and inspection make me believe it was one of the Pereids, though there were about two other showers occurring in the same timeframe that could've been the source.

Hehe, true. But seriously, do not cut thrust until touchdown: that's been the key for me in order to make consistently decent landings. The blown flaps are deactivated when idling (IIRC below 70% or so engine rpm) and then plop, down you go like a brick. :)

Well... what else to say:
