You can create some good effects using LEDs, but I have yet to see comfortable general lighting using LEDs. The luminace is way too high and the colour is either too 'cold' or has a weird tint. You can use coloured reflecting surfaces, but then the energy saving goes out the window.

And if you want dimmable light you run into all kinds of troubles. Fluorescent lights change colour when dimmed, but they have been getting better lately with the high-frequency drivers. Dimmable LEDs lead to a world of pain if you want uniform light, and if one LEDs pops you often have to change the whole set to make it function.

They give nice, warm light.
In general, you get a good colour from quality LEDs, like Cree or Bridgelux.
Various cheap and even expensive ready-made bulbs just use lots of chineese LEDs, which are horrible in many ways.
Bluish light, light changing with dimming, changing with time, overheating, etc.

Hm? Pretty much every LED driver have a dimming input.
What exactly are the problems.

Actually, what kind of LED lights are you talking about?
There are a lot of types of them.

The main problem is in existing installation. If you are making a new system you have several options, but converting an old house to LEDs can be very expensive if you can't do it yourself.

Most of the LEDs on the marked here are the horrible Chinese ones. You can order some quality gear, but it's out of the price range of many people.

I've been getting much the same feedback from customers. Home Depot carries Cree, and they've been getting (pardon the pun) glowing reviews. The Phillips have been getting somewhat mixed feedback though, mostly due to early failures (less than 3 months or so), which has been largely traced to using the wrong dimmer switches on the wall.

I've got an idea overnight (Yes, I dreamed about it :lol: )
What about controlling a refracting sphere's IOR with a Fresnel input and some tweaking?

Result is this:

Not bad, could be better, but no scientifc accuracy whatsoever.

Just watched a creepy movie from the USSR in 1979 called "Stalker", about a guy who leads two clients into a place called "The Zone", which is a deserted town that had been cordoned off by the military after some hazy event, thought to be either a meteor strike or an alien landing. It's long and slow but it's filmed beautifully and there are some scenes that just REALLY creeped me out. Like "will I sleep well tonight" creeped out.

We didn't get to see a whole lot of Soviet films in the US for obvious reasons, but man this is kind of a gem. Reminds me of Kubrick's style.

The deserted town obviously makes you think of Pripyat after the Chernobyl accident...which according to wikipedia hasn't been lost on people...

Had one a few months ago. Luckily it was my external hard drive, but all the source codes for my project, my entire musical library, awesome pictures of space and many different others valuable things were gone.
Hopefully my music and pictures library was backed up, but not the source codes ...
