And i was staring at it for a minute trying to get the joke... Without success.

The stormtrooper appears in the trailer for the new Star Wars movie.

Which of course raises the question: What happened to the clones? I'm sure it's explained somewhere in the extended universe... Then again, most of that was broken by the prequels.

Clones had died out or grown too old by the time of the original trilogy. The Stormtroopers are your usual, run-of-the-mill humans made by unskilled personnel with old-style methods. Clone troopers were actually competent soldiers and good shots, Stormtroopers are... Ok, they are Imperial Stormtroopers.

Meanwhile in Wolfsburg...

We don't have light bulbs anymore ... all changed to LED and LEDs are changed once per century.

Have you been in places which sell lightbulbs right before the ban of the big ones took place? I think there were people there who stocked up until the end of time.

LEDs - perhaps.
LED drivers - certainly not.
They range from "burns out in a couple of years" to "POPpshhhhss in a few hours".
Post mortems show two typical faults - lack of heat sinking and/or absurdly small creepage/clearance distances.

Occasionally an LED will burn up itself, in both cases i encountered that was due to a lack of thermal grease between it and it's heatsink.

Interesting.
What exactly was banned, and in what words?
Here at first the ban was on "100W lightbulbs", so the sellers promptly relabelled them as 99W lightbulbs, and continued selling as usual.

Heard of it - but never encountered it. None of the LEDs here had to be replaced in the past 3 years. Since I have quite many LEDs here installed in the same month, that gives a pretty good MTBF estimate.

Interesting.

Gradually lower watt numbers, but some types of light bulbs are not affected by the ban for example. Next year, halogen lights will be phased out, except for automotive applications (which is no deal at all: The local car industry is already in a competition around the best new light technology, from LEDs to Lasers)

Here the first ban was on bulbs with frosted glass, because you loose ~30% of lumen. This meant that we had to get rid of all lamps that had a visible bulb, and get ones with either opaic glass (50% less lumen) or in-direct (reflected) light path (80% less lumen).

The main issue was that old filament bulbs produced a lot of heat, but for some reason this was classified as a "loss". I get the point if you live in an area where air conditioning (or other active cooling) is required, but around here everyone has to make up for that by an increased heat bill. And since most new housing use some form of electric heating, we are back at square one.

EDIT: The long-life LEDs have a colour temperature of 20+kK. If you want to get down to fluorescent light (3k-5kK) the life span is much shorter. LEDs with filament bulb temps (1k-2kK) measure life span in milliseconds.

My dad was just going to the store to try to find a 120W, frosted light bulb. You guys are making me think we have to replace the whole set of lights...

At least, it doesn't matter trying some alternatives. Especially since you can have quite some creative fun with LEDs and other technologies.
