Either I am paranoid or everyone else is careless to bat:censored: insane. "Oh, a light switch just burnt through and is broken, no idea how it looks inside...who cares, let's turn on the power again, I want to watch TV." - "Uh, you know there could be something burning or smouldering now inside that light switch or the cables." - "I WANT TO WATCH TV!"

"Something happened, we don't know what happened and we don't know the status of it, but my priority is watching TV, let me watch TV!"

I wonder how those kind of people survive...

Now, that's a MFD we absolutely need...

According to a friend of mine who works in a post office, the difference is all in customs. According to him, between the lack of a trade agreement between the US and Russia, and the generally less aggressive security on Russia's end, transcontinental shipping to there is significantly faster then sending through American customs to Canada and then through Canadian customs from America. Funny how that works.

Did you use express shipping?
Perhaps.
UPS International was the only option available there, and that sounds like express delivery.

Tracking the package, it started in Kentucky, took twenty hours to get to New Jersey, and has apparently stayed there (last update is its arrival scan in Edison) since the third.

I'm not sure I've ever received a package in less than 10 days, even with high-priority shipping. On average it takes two or sometimes three weeks.
Here is the tracking progress i my case:

Mailed on the second at 6 PM, left USA 15 hours later, arrived in Germany after 14 more hours (ignoring time zones), 12 hours from there to Moscow, 6 hours to clear customs, and delivered the next morning.
About 60 hours total delivery time.

Curiously, i got a call from customs on the 3rd at 4 PM, while the package was supposed to have been in Germany.

They're kinda getting ahead of themselves in more ways than one.

A physicist sees a man about to jump off a skyscraper and says "Don't do it! You have so much potential!"

We need more omnipresent Russian dashcams!

Well, a few weeks ago it was ruled in a German court that dashcams are legal, as long as you don't share the material. So if you'd capture a cool meteorite strike: You may not show it to anyone.

Which also means giving dashcam videos of your crash to the police is illegal and will get you fined.

Actually, giving the material to the police is legal, the police might even demand it, if they see your dash-cam as evidence. Giving relevant evidence to the police is not publication, publication would be uploading the (even edited) videos on Youtube, television, etc.

But even that might change. A few years ago, it was technically illegal to upload still pictures of German street scenes. Now its enough to remove the license plates from it.

"Physicist Stephen Hawking warns God particle has potential to destroy universe"
Cringe level over 9000.
Reported by Daily Mail, Raw Story, and The Times of India. That should say enough.

Are dashcams really illegal in Russia, and if it its...why so?
In Russia?
They are pretty much standard issue.

By law, since 2009, police officers are not allowed to interfere with video/audio recording of their actions.
And it's been long established that dashcam videos are valid evidence in case of an accident or crime - that is what made them popular in the first place.

There are a few restrictions about concealed recording and publishing videos without consent, but as common here, no one really cares.

Not only that, they were extremely useful in providing data for scientists studying the Chelyabinsk meteor last year. The footage let them map the vectors and make calculations on the orbit, and find the landing site leading them to fragments.
