Maybe you're thinking of two different stories at once because this one has eggs, Klondike, and Jack London, but not so much gold.
No, not that one.
I think it was a story that referenced an earlier story.

Nailed. It.

Well, in favor of my strong preference to continue living, I think a call for arms is now necessary. Let there be WAR.

Also, in Silverbird, does anyone know a reliable way to simulate propellant crossfeed (FH-style) on a triple-core vehicle?
-Have the 1st stage with 5/3rds of regular 1st stage propellant mass
-Two boosters with identical dry masses, thrust and Isp, and 2/3rds fuel
-Which means that when the 2/3rds have run out of each of the three cores, the boosters separate and the center core is left with 3/3rds.

5/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 = 9/3 = 3 cores

I forgot to tell you that the current plans for my space agency's development* are to use the lifting body for manned flights, and an HTV-like vehicle for unmanned logistics.

I just noticed this sentence, or rather, the significance of it. Does that mean that the Fuji-inspired has been "cancelled", since it's a capsule?

Essentially, yes. But the interface will still look like this, with some modifications.

I abandoned it some time during my "Mass Space Tourism!" phase (March-May 2014), but I was thinking of making a small M-II-launched capsule, shaped more like Kankoh-maru than Fuji. I think the decision to completely abandon splashdown landings came after the Dragon V2 unveil.

Except, there's still no "Precise Atmospheric Propulsive Landing" MFD with "the accuracy of a helicopter."

I forgot, there was another landing method I was considering: the parafoil. Except there was a major issue: you can't have a drogue chute + parafoil on the same vessel without a custom .dll, and as you should all know I'm not interested in spending years mastering C++, or waiting for someone else to do the programming for the initial release.

eveningsky339 mentioned the "two identical but different vessels" trick, but I thought it was unwieldy, especially after seeing [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2193"]this add-on[/ame] (which only works in Orbiter 2005). I looked at the post-reentry scenario, curious about how it would work. When I pressed J to separate the "drogue chute vessel", the parafoil popped into existence as the vessel instantly found itself pitched towards the ground. It went back to an upright position after a few seconds.

Also, controlling a (Fuji-like) capsule with a parafoil in Orbiter wouldn't be too good, because you would be facing the sky all the way.

If you are doing it the proper way, you need two weeks. Proper means: Get a good book, contact data for people to help you with the tough questions and after learning what C++ can do for you, learn how to describe your problems in C++.

The problem isn't C++. The real problem is being forced to analyse your wishes and develop solutions.

Let me guess: The military parked and cameoed a tank in your barn during an excercise and afterwards couldn't remember where they left it.

Wouldn't even be the first time

Actually it's a private military museum. They've got tanks, APCs and tons of guns. I'm thinking about going to live there.

That sounds very much like a place in Meisterschwanden...

Hey, a free tank is a free tank.

No two ways around it: Orbiter 2014 is the best Mars Atlas ever, except the interface. A single camera mode with a bit of specialisation for the task could already solve a lot of that.

Only other drawback so far seems to be discrepancies between the map and the terrain, at least at the poles.

Ah, if only I could get it to run on my Win8 machine... :(
