On one hand, you got a million lines of code glorping up a complex $10 CPU and it's $50 worth of support electronics, with unknown amount of bugs and lots of wasted resources.
On the other hand you got an $1 purpose-designed chip on a sub-$1 worth board doing only the few hundred instructions your task required.
Cheaper, more reliable, more practical.
There's a major difference between "too much fat and sugar leads to obesity and other health problems" and "fat and sugar are literally poison; avoid that junk like the plague."
