Just ran across this
http://spacefellowship.com/News/?p=5035

How do you feel about the need to be around growing things? I just started my first garden attempt - Beefsteak Tomatoes. Wasn't there a ship awhile back with agro pods I can't remember what is was. Anyway, I think gardens in space sound pretty cool. Oh yeah, have you seen my new favorite star on the Food Network, Jamie Oliver. He's seriously into gardening and cooking and fun to watch.

I just noticed that we now have 541 members and 398 active members. That is a pretty good accomplishment, don't you think?

It's always amusing to see Tex's new avatar, which he changes far too often. ;)

A little Bavarian piece of poetry... yesterday performed in an incredible way by the actor Günther Kaufmann:

Zwoa Knedln san hart zsammagsteßn-
im Wirtshaus, nachm Mitagessen.
Zwoa, scho abkocht treffa sich
im Topf drin, in da Wirtshausküch.
Blos findens ananand koan Spaß-
sie warn ned von da gleichn Rass.
Da oa wa braun, da anda heller,
vom Keßl kummas aufn Teller,
da landns auf am hölzern Brettl,
da Semmel- und da Leberknedl.
Da Semmelknedl zreist sie glei
-mit vollem Kampf- sei freches Mei.
"Bist jetzt du so dreckig
oda nua schich und leberfleckig?"
Da anda hat so schwer beleidigt
si natürlich glei verteidigt.
"Du hast as nötig dummer Hund!
Du bist ja ned amoi richtig rund!
Schaust aus wia am Wirt sei Glatzn,
du seitn bleda blaser Batzen!"
"Ja eam schaug oh!Nennt mi der blass,
du pockennarbigs Aushilfsgfraß!
Du durchedrahter Knorpespeicher!"
Des treibt den Leberknedl nauf
drum schreit a zruck:"Du gell pass auf!
Das I dir dei frechs Mei ned stoppf,
du saubagschlickter Warzenkopf!
Umsonst bist du ned übrigbliem.
Du schaust ja aus wia dreimal gespiebn.
Und wieder zruckgschickt zum vergleich
du ausrangierte Wasserleich!
Wiest ausschaugst und 'pfui deifi' schmeckst,
a Semmelknedl, ja mi leckst!"
Inzwischen san zwoa Gäst auftaucht.
Für da wern de zwoa Knedl braucht.
Umsonst war Eifersucht und Zorn,
de zwoa san einfach gfressen wordn!

Alright...normally, I should be able to translate that. But those verses just render me helpless:sorry:. I hope it is a dialect, or my German really sucks:lol:

It is the Bavarian dialect in its thickest form, i doubt there is any translation software around.

If you exchanged jokes with Bavarian kids in your childhood, you have a tiny realistic chance of understanding it. A large part of the poem is based on typical Bavarian insults, which are not even easy to translate into standard German.

Somethin' about "liver."

Actually, it's about two "Klöße", one is a bright Semmelknödel, made of dried bread, the other a dark Leberknödel (made of liver), who bump hard into each other and start an aggressive argument about their different "races" in the kitchen of a small Bavarian restaurant. The poems ends with all the aggressive behavior and jealousy being total useless, as both got eaten by two guests.

Strange how I like neither liver nor dried bread, and yet after reading the last post my stomach is growling.

Thank you Urwumpe! :) That reminds me of the Canadian poem about trees arguing their needs out, only to be "kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw."

Well... some Semmelknödel with Geschnetzeltes (cut meat) and a spicy mushroom sauce (ideally Cantharellus)... Damn, I think I can't eat in the university tomorrow...
