No idea. But judging the protective clothing of the soldiers, a mild case of acute radiation syndrome would be an option. Since it comes with cognitive impairment, this would also explain the use of suicide vests....

She :) Here is the passage from the book, my translation:

...She was young, probably under 18. Hard to tell, as her face and arms were dirty and heavily scarred. She approached Paul, and walked with him for a moment. He smiled, but she did not reciprocate. A sudden change in her eyes warned him; he jumped away from the knife she took out from under her torn dress. Lying now on the ground, he would not have escaped her second attack, but everyone froze, after sergeant fired in the air. He grabbed the girl by her hair and dragged her towards her companions.

- Whose bitch is this? - He asked when they were a few steps from the small crowd of people in rags. Nobody answered. - I asked, who conceived this whore?

- She's an orphan. - Responded one of the men with tearing voice. - Found her in the suburbs.

Sergeant pushed the girl on the sidewalk, without entirely letting go of her hair. He was left with a handful of it as she fell.

- I should kill this scum - he said, slowly dropping the contents of his hand. - But, I will leave to you how to punish her. She attacked the Messengers. - He pointed at us. - She could have killed them, and you know what the Mayor would do with your community if he found out?

They nodded, apologizing. Someone kicked the girl, someone else has helped her up, just to send her back down with one hit. She did not even moan. The sergeant turned around and walked to Paul.

- I understand her, actually - he hissed - I would have ripped your guts out already, but the Mayor is waiting... And nobody will dare to disobey him.

- Who is this mayor - I asked. - Your leader?

- You're gonna meet him, scum - he frowned. - if I can calm down those we are going to meet on the way, that is.

- Why do they hate us? - I asked, although for some time already, I thought I already knew the answer. - We did not do anything to them.

- Really? So look at them and look at yourself. You have hair, clean skin, fresh clothes - He touched his formerly white shirt; his body was full of open sores, a sure sign that radiation sickness was still eating him alive. - And why is it so? You don't know? So I will explain it to you. Because, scum, you and your buddies wanted to play gods and you have traded our lives for your fantasies. Having power was not enough for you, so you wanted conquests. Several thousands of chosen ones. Super humans. The government and its cronies. For you, shelters and future. Everyone else, six feet under. Except that we did not die, as we were supposed to. We are waiting until you creep out of your holes, to welcome you. - He took out his knife. - According to our new customs!

I'm sensing a business opportunity... :) There is a lot of good Polish sci-fi which is never translated to English...

That particular book has an additional problem though, that it has a lot of subtexts which are only understandable when you are Polish. For example, the leader referred to as Mayor in my excepts, is actually named Jan [John] Sobieszczuk, and at one point someone sarcastically refers to him as Jan IV Sobieszczuk. This is a pun involving our famous king, Jan III Sobieski. This extends to the whole concept of the book in fact: as you should know, Poland had a long period of being under foreign rule. At one point in the book it is revealed (much to the shock of the reader) that Sobieszczuk was a politician before the war and caused it through his machinations -- with the ultimate goal of carving the Polish Empire out of the nuclear ashes.

Recorded on the ground receiver.
Surprisingly, the damage is mostly cosmetic, plus two broken props.
The frame is not even bent, and no core components got damaged.

Anybody use fingerprint-gui on Ubuntu?

If so, do you have any systems that haven't upgraded fingerprint-gui to 1.07 since that version came out?

If so, do you still have the *.deb for version 1.06 in /var/cache/apt/archives?

If so, can I have a copy? Version 1.07 is broken on at least some systems (including mine), and I haven't been able to find a copy of 1.06 to force-downgrade to.

EDIT: Thanks to the magic of dpkg-repack, I managed to get it off a laptop that hadn't been booted in a few months. I've also learned a lesson: Include your apt cache in your daily backups!

Curiously, the radio part handles the signal just fine - i have a nice and clear image on the screen.

It's the DVR that adds all the frame tracking and image distortions.

Apparently it is too Chineese for the job, but it was the only thing that was small enough to carry around.

I'll be putting a recording HD camera on board, so that is a temporary problem.
