Major League Baseball spring training has started! The Atlanta Braves are playing the Detroit Tigers, and baseball season is almost here!

What are you when you run in front of a truck? Tired.

What are you when you run behind a truck? Exhausted.

I'll show myself out.

In colloquial American usage, a sting is often called a rimshot.

So a sting is what it would actually be called in english. I thought they would have stuck with the french terminology as with most anything else
Anyways, colloquial or not, rimshot is just plain wrong. It's like calling a book an essay (and I notice that it is really difficult to come up with precise analogies).

Anyone else see the Mythbusters shoot a pingpong ball at Mach 1.4 last night? I have to try this now. Not supersonic, but as fast as I can. That air cannon design they used is brilliant. :)

It's scary cool. Barrel at vacuum, and a 300 PSI tank behind the ball. 30 foot barrel. End result: 1100 mph, enough to cause serious injury if you were to get hit by that pingpong ball. But not fatal.

Why not use a sabot....

That's what I was thinking of doing... Question is, what to load into it? Ping pong balls just don't have enough... oomph.

I was thinking of a large nail, and aiming it at a chunk of 2x4 lumber.

Careful. The mythbusters have accidentally shot projectiles through several layers of protection on multiple occasions. You might send a nail flying through a couple of bedrooms.

I'm not going to be doing it at Mach 1.4... 350-450 mph is PLENTY. :D
Plus, i know of a nice, secluded area where I can do these kinds of experiments without risking an incident like that.

That was so un-mythbusters.
Why did they decide mach 1.4 was enough?
Why not supersize it to mach 3?
Where is the "reproduce the result" stage?
