The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
H.P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu
Oh man, this is epic stuff. Must get the books ASAP
Edit: Can't believe no one tried to make a movie about this. He's basically describing an incredibly advanced , sinister alien master race. And this was written before the whole spaceflight thing began. Forget the wraiths of Stargate, the xenomorphs or the Borgs. These guys are waaay more sinister. Seriously, this is good science-fiction material

A number of Marine Nationale Rafale-M multi-role fighter jets and E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning and control aircraft, along with 350 support personnel and aircrew, will deploy aboard the USS George H.W. Bush this Spring. Not only will the multi-national operation work to give Rafale-M aircrews much needed carrier qualifications—France's only carrier has been undergoing a mid-life refit—but it also aims to expand the two countries' abilities to operate fighter aircraft cooperatively from the sea for prolonged periods of time.
This is aweeeee...some... No, I won't stand beside a burning rocket stage... :leaving:

Chinese villagers captured remarkable footage just after sunrise on Friday showing a Long March 3B rocket booster falling out of the sky, crashing into a mountain and exploding into flames while releasing highly toxic propellants left in its tanks after helping send a pair of Beidou-3 navigation satellites on their way into orbit.

Just realized I didn't make a launch thread for that. Sorry.
Crazy to go anywhere near that, even if it's not burning you have no idea what kind of toxic stuff is in those things. That sickly orange cloud in that second photo? That looks like hypergolic stuff to me. No thanks, I prefer my lungs to remain in working order, please.

Amazon played Ding-Dong-Ditch-It with me today. Got a package delivered, right street address but wrong name. I called and said that I wasn't the intended recipient, Amazon apologized and said to keep the package.
I am now the proud owner of two (2) copies of Tommy Two Shoes. Colorful, but the plot is a bit thin.
Forget the wraiths of Stargate
The Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage
Forgot them long ago. Atlantis was a good show overall, but they had the second most terrible villains of any scifi show I've seen (first place being the... wraiths? seriously? ...of DS-9. Maybe it's something with the name...)
Somebody really dun goofed. I happen to work in the outbound side of Amazon these days and I can only think of one or two ways that managed to slip the like...four different places where that should have been caught.
Interesting. The address was mine, but the name was someone else's. If the purchaser entered the incorrect shipping address, how could that have been caught?
