My personal sentence to make me berserk: :@

will it be ummu compatible?

Everytime I read this at the end of a good discussion and review of a new add-on, the dark clouds gather and the birds stay on the ground around me.

It's even worse than the good old classic "will it have auto?". In all but the rarest cases, it is either UMMU compatible or has no problems with UMMUFA. So what is the sense behind such a post? Why is the author only looking at the ummu compatibility... can he only dock and transfer crew?

I am almost sure, when somebody releases the JWST, among the first 50 posts will be "Will it be ummu compatible".

The ideal add-on would be most likely a pure docking tunnel. It is ummu compatible - and can't do anything else.

*Rant over*

I haven't bothered to read the thread and have Just one question, will it be UMMU compatible? plz, thx!;)

and I bet you posted that becasue of this I posted in the Salyut6 theared
is the soyuz 7K-T going to be ummu compatible ?

EDIT: this is off topic but I just made it to the moon for the first time :) !!!

I see the logic of a gamer. People love virtual realities, they love to be people there, and therefore do what people do. UMMU compatible adds a feeling of having people there, not just objects.

I remember that in my workshop for kids, they had to use DGIII astronauts to escape from a stranded DGIII to a rescue DGIII that was about 100 meters away. They had to use the HUD to get there. It was a practice before docking space station. Unfortunately Dan Steph removed the HUD for MMUs.

But kids felt MMUs as if they were people. People do not like just spacecraft toys. They like to feel there are people there. So I do understand such comments about compatibility.

your right that why I like ummu so that I can have a character that I can eva with and allow to reenter earths atmosphere (They can survive that as long as you are going slow)

ok I might watch it :)

Pah. You have not experienced the fun of Paraconing ;) - A realistic add-on (1960s Tech) for reentering with an astronaut.

if you really want to show skills, land on the moon with a UMMU astronaut. In theory it is possible, the question is just: Can you also pilot a spacecraft for swapping turbopacks during the way down?

i have got about 1meter above the surface in a ummu its just that I wear going at 5km's so I could not land :(

EDIT: any one who wants to help me test my mars rover read this http://orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=2605 then if you want to help PM me and I will give you a download link :) !

Lol. Totally need a *splat* addon for orbiter;)

I like all these UMMU scenario ideas.

I tried a UMMU scenario the other night though i'm sure others have tried similar things. turbo pack a guy off the surface of the moon to put him in a parabolic trajectory, using all the fuel. Then hop in a XR1 or whatever and try and catch and rescue the turbopacker and put yourself in a stable, low lunar orbit before everything hits the fan, err, lunar surface. I've only tried it once and it was a miserable failure though i got to within 1km of the turbopacker, which i thought was pretty good going.

well that something I have never done :(

P.S does any one want to help test my manned mars rover addon ?

[snip!]

From a thread introducing UPDock on the M6 Forums...
I've just successfully performed preliminary tests on a docking tunnel/adapter module that, when docked to two vessels, will pass a UMMu through from one vessel to the other. Once I've had a chance to clean it up a bit and add some documentation, I'll upload an alpha/development kit somewhere. It will be configurable through different config files, though I'll also include the source file.
[A few posts later...]

somebody said:
DOse the alther have Ummu?

(Actually, I'm not sure what he was asking had uMMu... That was the last message in the thread.)

btw, I just added mesh and a config file for a 40ft self-propelled docking tunnel to the repository. Any further comments regarding UPDock can be put on the ICOVD Windmill development thread for now, since the two projects are kind of interconnected.

It's just a simple question innit? UMMU is a great add-on, that really makes your ship come alive (atleast in my opinion), having to actually care for the poor blighters in there, rather than smacking down at 400m/s during landing... And the added capability to grapple things and move them about is another awesome feature. Brings some more intrest to your EVAs than just moving about.

I hate all topics titled "help" or similar. Usaly those can also be answered with "Page 13" or "Tuesday".
If this threads topic had ummu, it would have died because it is out of O2...

By far, the phrase I can't stand the most is:

"Off-plane lunar transfers are way too inefficient and take too much fuel. You should match planes first!"
