I know, the title sounds like an oxymoron, but let me explain.

I was recently wondering how mid flight disasters could be simulated in Orbiter, and wasn't sure if there was a way to make this event happen using the .scn file. Is there anyway to edit the .scn file so at a certain time, there could be critical systems failure, such as loss of fuel, APU failure, or something similar? Could this also be done so it happened at a random time during the mission?

i guess you could even use LUA scripting for something like that... but this would require whatever ship you're using to provide the needed features to support for this...

the stock DG doesn't, i assume

Well, if the LUA interface supports all the vessel and oapi methods, then conceivably, you could disable a group of thrusters or vent your fuel or something.

the DGIV has the means to means to do so I believe, I think that the xr series of vehicles do as well. I could be wrong on that however.

I think SSU has something for this as well, where you can set a type of error (SSME failure, etc.) and the MET at which it occurs in the scenario file. I could be wrong, though.

Shuttle Fleet, Endeavour, 1EO TAL practice

Yes, Shuttle Fleet already have the possibility for an engine to fail

Thorton ISSR v3.0 features failures for Soyuz launches (requires project R7 + expansion). You can set a reliability percentage for each booster/stage. I find it makes launches a lot more exciting (even if you set a realistic number like 98%, you feel relief only when the spacecraft is in orbit :)). It adds fun + realism.

Ah, so it was Shuttle Fleet I was thinking of. Having never gotten it to work on my Orbiter, I'm no expert on it.
