Pit-Tube is open (Formally Moonport.org)

Hey everyone.

In case you were wondering whatever happened to my Orbiter site, Moonport, well two things. One Orbiter has not been updated for very long time, and second, I was paying big bucks to keep the site going, and third, I had virtually no time to maintain the site.

So in order to trim the fat, I had to end my dedicated server running moonport and release myself as an orbiter Distributor. This in itself will save me quite a bit. But my web presents has not gone away and, in fact, I converted the site to something you may want to use.

Enter Pit-Tube. My YouTube answer. I was getting tired of the choppy and poor video quality YouTube was giving, so I decided to start my own video sharing service. As for you, the Orbiter community, I invite you one and all to share your videos on Pit-Tube. With an improved video converter, quality will be maintained to your satisfaction.

You can embed videos, like YouTube, in messages, like in this example:

Well, it appears that embedding does not work here, but trust me, it does. Just close your eyes and imagine. It's a nice space shuttle launch video. You can see it here

You can also upload audio as well, which YouTube lacks.

Anyways, I invite all my friends in the Orbiter community to use this service to share their Orbiter videos. While I may not have as much time to work with Orbiter, I do enjoy watching the work of others.

How secure would the system be if anyone could just embed everything?

There is a way of setting up embedding, but it's up to admins and it's dependent on the individual forum and forum system.

Welcome back! HTML code is not allowed in posts for security reasons, so you can post it, but the forum will not embed the video like that. Other videos you see embedded in posts are done when a member posts a link to a video from a site in which we have the ability to automatically embed.

Thanks. I'm an old veteran in Orbiter with a large resume. I used to admin here actually. Man, things have changed since I was gone.

I'm hoping the admins here can do something about allowing my videos to work on the forum.

Can video hosting sites be added to automatically embed themselves on the forum in some config option? I have a video hosting site up and running now that I'd love to have my old friends use and the video links are not working.

No. vBulletin (or PHP BB or Nuke or whatever system is in use) has to do that. The reason YouTube is being embedded by default is because it's probably the most recognized video hosting website. Your website will not automatically embed on every forum.

But yes, adding you to the list of embedding for Orbiter-Forum can be done with ease. It has to be done by the admin though.

Thanks for the PM Tex. As I cannot test it, I sent my reply. As I have a ton of Orbiter videos to show, I'd love it if er can make it work.
