I like both the original and the reboot version. I don't see why people find the latter "ugly," it looked pretty sleek to me. It just sounds like another case of "I don't like it because it's not the original."

Although I'm not as keen on the Motion Picture/Wrath of Khan version... it doesn't have the cool dome-shaped bussard collectors.

It's not me.

[NERD MODE ON]
The Abramsprise surely has nice details, thanks to the CGI and the high budget for special effects. But overall has very wrong proportions... very ugly, silly and weird nacelles, that are placed too closer to each other... the neck is placed too backward... the secondary hull too forward... and so on. In substance, it's like the original Enterprise drawn by an 8-year kid. In fact, when I had 8 years (loong time ago), I drew the Enterprise much better than this. The guy that has designed her has not catched the perfect proportions of the original. Only the saucer is pretty close to the original Enteprise (the refit one).

Not counting the idiotic internals.
And the super-stupid pumping from 300 to over 700 meters (Enterprise on steroids?), a dimension that simply not match with the external details (windows, decks, hatches).

The original (TOS and refit version) is way better in every aspect. The refit in particular has some art-decò elegance that is simply out of sight for this crappy remake. And the bridge IS NOT LIKE AN APPLE-STORE.
The only comparable starship in matter of elegance and style, if not better, is the Enterprise-D from The Next Generation.

I'm not a great fan of the ultra-stupid reboot by JJ Abrams... if you had not understood... ;-)
[NERD MODE OFF].

This is a good reading for nerds.

I can agree with you on the neck placement and the whole "beer factory" section of the interior... but the bridge, I'll say it's pretty sleek and futuristic to me.

and Starlab, still looking awesome!

MSA launched the second UHFx satellite today, 3 days after the planned launch date. The launch was a success and the UHFx2 is on a GTO.

I've discovered over the past 6 months that texturing isn't really my thing, so it's a blank model still. :(
