Huh, interesting. Looks like a slightly-less-spherical Soyuz.

Atlas V CCB + Block-D from the N-1 days = ......

The original plans of Orbital Access Consortium for re-starting production of one of the world's most reliable launchers, the Delta II, is now in doubt due to increasing costs of re-starting production of some of the key components and restoring launch facilities for such a long period. To fill in the gap, we are now discussing with Lockheed Martin, ULA and Russia's RKK Energia to introduce a new variant of the Atlas V - the Atlas V-DM. By replacing the rather expensive Centaur upper stage with the most used re-startable cryogenic upper stage ever flown - the kerosene-fueled Block-DM (325 flights flown since 1967), a cheaper rocket that can compete in the Delta II/Falcon 9 class commercial market is born. With the capability of lifting 7-14.5 tonnes to the ISS orbit and 1.5-4.7 tonnes to GTO, it would probably beat even the Soyuz when it comes the costs, due to the re-use of stages and facilities from other rockets (the Block-DM, for example, is shared with the Zenit and Proton rockets). While negotiations are still on-going, we are already making progress in getting several customers on board for such a proposal. :)

P.S. Yeah, the Russians are actually interested in such a proposal! (but see the links for the actual market....)

...and a wip of "Spider" the C++ project that's been driving me mad for the last month.

Call me crazy, but the Star Wars Disco Anthem goes along well with this screenshot.

Furthermore, with all these screenshots it's like a pictorial history of one huge space program. We've got R&D, colonization, historical, near-future tech, stations, satellites, exploration, challenges, fun-times & competition, experiments, and more. It's all chronicled right here in this thread, along with the videos thread.

Orbiter *IS* its own space agency right here right now!
