Olympics 2012

Because the sponsors pay a good part of the fee for the Olympics. You can bet that he wasn't wearing that watch because he bought it the day before but was being paid to wear it and if that stuff happens then the official sponsors get upset and pull out of future events.

It is called ambush marketing and Nike are one of the best at it.

If you can get access and would like more analysis, I would recommend Gruen Sweat on ABC (Australian)

The brand protection policy is ridiculous. Businesses who aren't official sponsors cannot mention words like "London", "2012", or "Olympics" in their advertising. They can't even mention words such as "summer" if it creates an association with the Games. And of course, they will police those shops to check if they have anything infringing.

The Olympics has its good side, and its dark side. (it's also expensive for a city to host an Olympic Games)

But some have tried a workaround (also a protest against this policy):

Who knows, maybe one day NASA, ULA, Arianespace, Roscosmos, SpaceX & others will say we can't use their logos on our rockets and we will have to make the same with NAAS, LUA, Spacerianae, Scorosmos, X-Space...

Hopefully its all over soon?

After all this time, the Olympics are just now the featured article on Wikipedia?

(I guess, they were waiting until the Olympics were almost over so that they can have most of the current information)

Well, I've enjoyed it quite a lot. I haven't watched much of it, but it's been great to see the international involvement, and the UK seems to have become a slightly warmer place to live during the Olympics. It seems to have brought people a little closer together, and I'm proud of everyone who took part, and yes, it does make me pretty happy to be British.

As long as Orbiter and relative add-ons are a not-for-profit venture it would be churlish for them to do that. However, in a lot of commercial FPS (like Goldeneye) the firearms' names are changed (Hawkman for HK USP, Sigmus for MP5 and so on). Same happens for sports games involving cars. Have you ever wondered why official FIFA games end up so expensive? They need the license for the team's insignia and players' names, and that costs money.

However, in a freeware game that is meant to educate and inform about spaceflight (and generally having a lot o'merry rocket-propelled fun), things are a bit different.

Who are they? Wikipedia is maintained by everyone. You could have added an Olympics article yourself.

Personally I'm glad that the main event is over. now maybe london can get back to normal.

Well the last event has just ended.... (woman's modern pentathlon, with Britain capturing a silver medal via Sam Murray), and the British really did very well with 29 gold medals and 65 medals. Even Hong Kong got a bronze medal in cycling, the third time my city has ever win a medal.

Off to Rio in 2016 (and before then, the 2014 FIFA World Cup) then!

I do not precisely remember last Olympics ( and i'm not in the idea to make comparisons ) but your's, for sure, was nice. There was, also, a lot of spectators at all the competitions. Yes, for that, i think that you can be pretty happy to be British.

Congratulations to the United States for their well-deserved first ranking in medals !

I guess that France ranking is not to bad for a "small" country. ;)

The Olympics are already over, but I wanted to share this:

Who knew that NBC used a theme from a western for its Olympics music?
