played it like a madman back in spring on the console. The game has serious potential, even with the glitches. The procedural planets do get a bit repetetive after a while, but the game has enough complexity to keep you going

So wait, is NMS worth buying and playing now.

My afternoon, post-work ideas were:

  • Fly XR-2 to Mars (or somewhere else, but probably Mars)
  • Clean Office
  • Practice Kreutzer Etude 15
  • Early Start on Making Dinner
  • Try No Mans Sky

Help me decide

I've always found it too difficult.
Had a go today, dead in 3 minutes, couldn't find some Sulphur flowers? and got cremated.

Then again. I've no patience and don't read the manual...

Wait... what... There's a manual? :embarrassed:

I take it you just used all that energy up on Orbiter years ago:lol:

Looks like I'm going to Mars...

NMS is quite possibly one of the most casual games I've ever played.
The start in survival mode is a bit challenging, but then the curve starts dropping rapidly.
Normal mode is start is... Well, it's not *easy* per se if you're playing for the first time, but as long as you read the instructions in the bottom left corner you'll mostly be fine.

The only reason I ever die in this game is because I did something stupid because I forgot that dying was even an option

One tip for complete beginners: Walk, don't run. Running and jetpacking drains your life support faster, so if you're low on supplies it's not a good tactic.

Well, I'm just too slow.
By the time I've read the warnings, its...

Playing an Empire game called Satisfactory at the moment.
Its a bit easier and it has conveyor-belts in it, always a plus.
Also has a psychotic armadillo I can usually deal with and then fall off a cliff.

I'm sure these games people have been watching Warner Brothers cartoons and are just taking the mick.

So wait, is NMS worth buying and playing now.

It depends on what you're looking for. If by "worth buying" you refer to richness in content, then yes, there's almost ridiculous amounts of it by now.
But it is still a rather simple, chill experience. There's some mechanics that offer some debt, but you don't really have to bother with them if you don't want to. Mostly it's really just "bumbling around looking for cool stuff". There's a pretty unique story with a distinct new-wave feel and theme, which is pretty rare in video games, but not everybody's cup of tea (it's also not exactly a hugo nominee...).

Still, it's without a doubt the most played game of my life.

I did end up getting it, it's on sale so why not.

Unfortunately I have to turn the settings down to Noctis levels to get a decent frame rate on my 2006 computer.

It looks pretty though.

Yes, well, now you point it out...

All a bit academic, haven't got off the planet yet.

Just played my first salvage op... Some great stuff, but the enemies I encountered were quite the pushovers. Mosquitoes are more of an annoyance than those things were. Maybe there's different difficulty levels and I just happened to have gotten an easy one, but I wouldn't expect so given that the game is overall on the not-so-challenging side. Still, those critters were a very far cry from the monstrosities one can find planetside.

Some good stuff otherwise, though. Can get a bit confusing since NMS doesn't have a mini-map, which is very fitting.

"Every atom procedural", they say.
And yet, it's a 1.6 GIGAbyte update for a 10 GIGAbyte game.
Procedural. Gigabytes.
Sigh...
