Best wishes to all! Happy 2012!

Happy new year 2012 from France. That was the last day we had to pay taxes ... for 2011 I mean.
I hope you'll be in good health to see what mankind will achieve in 2012 and beyond. :sweet:

About four and a half hours.
Are we counting leap hours, for the solar year? :P

It's snowing like the dickens here in Minnesota. Fitting way to end the year. :)

Happy New Year, as said RisingFury, we've all completed (more or less) another revolution around our Star. So many billion miles traveled !

Oh boy. I just read the winter storm warning for the county I'm in. 2-4" of snow, and gusts up to 45 mph.

Yup. A perfect way to end the year.

Of course, the starting point of the orbit is pretty arbitrary. If I was setting up the calendar now, I'd pick one of these dates to set January 1st to:
20. / 21. March (Equinox)
20. / 21. June ("Winter" solstice)
22. / 23. September (Equinox)
20. / 21. December ("Summer" solstice)
3. January (Earth at Perihelion)
4. June (Earth at Aphelion)

So, what is now known as March 21st would become January 1st...
I say "Winter" and "Summer" solstice, because we all know that the southern hemisphere experiences a different season as the northern one.

The least egoistical seem to be 3. January and 4. June, since they don't set a preference to either hemisphere.

Sorry to derail the thread, y'all.

Not all of us...;)

Happy new year 2012 to all of you with some delays. Had been celebrating at my parents house, peaceful and with good food.

well, happy new year!

that was a mostly decent approximately-full orbit of our little ball of rock 'round the sun.... but i hope the next kludgefully stretched one will be even better - so best wishes to all and may the probe be with you on every reentry
