We have been given a chance by a sponsor of having a laptop bought for two purposes:

1.Multimedia show on DVD - non Orbiter related (I need help to decide how to buy a good all-weather DVD player that last long without failures, and a professional sound card for laptop)

2.Laptop specs to make a nice demonstration of current and future versions of Orbiter.

I know for certain that I will need external USB mouse and USB keyboard if demonstrations are to take place. But that's all.

I would like two specs, one that has acceptable performance (realistic in terms of budget) and ideal configuration that works. It is important to know that it works for certain. It would not look good that they buy the hardware and then orbiter does not run.

It would imply:
-Processor
-RAM
-Motherboard
-Sound card
-Video card
-Portable sound system that could reach an auditorium

I have 48 hours to submit the info.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. I've just bought a new laptop, mainly for email/internet, but of course I had to test Orbiter on it!

Dell Inspiron 1525
Vista HP (Rating 3.4 Windows Experience)
Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz
3062Mb RAM
Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset & Intel on-board audio

Clean Orbiter install with (Textures 2) gives ~15FPS on the Demo/Docked at ISS scenario (2D panel/VC/external - they're all about the same).

PS there's no anti-aliasing (that I can find), and the resolution is the native 1280 x 800.
Sound is good through headphones.

In short, not good. I'd recommend something with dedicated mobile graphics.

Hope this helps.

I misunderstood the offer. It seems a laptop is not part of the available budget....
Support will take place in a different way.
I think I will need to find a way to get one on my own...
