of the Sidewinder) have created a prototype ramjet missile using a model
rocket engine and off shelf parts paid for with credit card.

Wait... they discovered that using a credit card instead of a slow centralized acquisition process saves time and money? (Same here... The hardware upgrade of my company laptop is still lost in the bureaucracy after almost 3 months. Using my debit card would have solved the problem in 2 hours. Including getting the necessary paperwork for the accountants.)

ramjet or scramjet ?

Next to last paragraph has: "By the third launch, they had a working scramjet missile propulsion unit."

I assume this is a simple mistake, and the author meant "ramjet", as elsewhere in the article (12 times).
