Nasa's Moonbase Design Unveiled

I'm still surprised they're not going to cover it with lunar soil. I saw an earlier study that showed covering a metal habitat with about a foot or so of lunar soil (IIRC mixed with water into a lunar concrete) could significantly cut radiation exposure and allow a slightly lighter structure by relieving internal pressure loads.

OH MY GOD MOON BASE PORN !!!!!!!

The newest design isn't inflatable. It' was the first design, Moon Base One, that was inflatable.

Porn? Where?

Moon base and bouncy castle in one, all in 1/6 gravity. sweet.

Bouncy Inflatable Habs+Coed Multinational Crews=One Interesting Mission!

inflatable and in the surface ?? poor astronauts, roasted like a chicken in a microwave oven.
but they could be very happy , bouncing again and again inside of the habitat in a low gravity enviroment.

Porn ?? is planned fill it with water ??

Strangely enough, 80's b-movie, 'Moontrap' features a not very sexy sex scene between Chekov from Startrek and a several thousand year old woman which takes place inside an inflatable moon habitat. Hot stuff!;)

:rofl: Oh man you split my sides!

The inflateable idea is pretty much a given. Bigelow is currently pioneering the field of inflateables in a vacuum, and it looks promising.

Burying a base in the regolith is a good idea for the future, of course, but before you can do that, you need a "starter" base.

Burying things on the moon is a tougher challenge than you think, since regolith is very abrasive stuff, and you have to design machines that can handle it, and of course you have to move all that stuff, which is expensive and will take several launches.

Cool ideas for Orbiter, but I doubt we'll see any of it for real.

I imagine the plan is to use pure oxygen, too!

Better hope there's no static possible inside those balloons.
