MRO reveals wetter Mars

Of course this whole "hope for life on Mars" holy grail presumes that the same geologic forces and rules on Mars are/were exactly the same as Earth's which is by no means assured.

The environment for early life need not be the same, just similar with liquid water being main similarity being searched for. Consider the huge variety of habitats that exist on Earth in extremes of temperature, pressure and chemical composition. The one constant through all those is the presence of water.

Yep but all of those unpleasant places on Earth had life literally crammed into them from more hospitable areas. Even at the best of times, that was not true on Mars. IMO.
