Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 has been released.

Tried using the Beta Express C++ when that came out last year, kept hanging up on my Vista PC box. Went back to 2008.
Hopefully the paid for version is better.

I was going to try the beta, but something told me that testing the beta of a compiler would be an operating system death-wish.

Can Orbiter (or its addons) be compiled using the Express version?

2010: I have no reason to assume otherwise.
2008: yes
2005: yes

And tools for Orbiter 2006 and the core itself is compiled with 2005 or the compiler version doesn't matter (as long as it's not older than the version which compiled the core, I presume)?

Yup. Some minor changes to the code is required to make pre-VS2005 add-ons compile on VS2005 and later versions. Orbiter itself was compiled using VC++6(if I remember correctly). Orbiter 2010 will be the first Orbiter version to be compiled using VC++2005.

A nice tutorial on OrbiterWiki on how to get VC++2005 up and running: http://www.orbiterwiki.org/wiki/Free_Compiler_Setup

VB 2010 Beta is much better than 2008. It looks really cool!

I have used VB 2010 on my computer with every last important document on it. It worked. *gosh*

"Document" meaning Orbiter related stuff?

I don't think it could be any Orbiter's plug-in, because they aren't written in Visual Basic. It might be an external project used for Orbiter, like some calculator or surface base editor, but rather nothing using Orbiter's API.

Oh, I wasn't paying attention to VB, I read it like VS. My bad.

any news on whether this includes the prophetic new C++0x standards?

i heard rumors that M$ was gonna get their compiler up to it ahead of time (compared to the official ISO plans *cough*never*cough*)... :hmm:

thanks! i was having trouble finding that!

that´s some good news
