Same here, there's no point in doing it unless its accurate.
Of course, it can be accurate without being detailed, for technical or time reasons.
One interesting thing is the appearance of "3D from photos" applications that will sooner or latter make us all very happy . Imagine dropping all the good historical photos of a pad and then having an explorable 3D model as the result. Software like Sketchup already allows you to get dimensions and position from photos.
More on topic, I've made some progress with the ground mesh/texture for pad 19 .
