Instead of the crew being thrown around at 1st stage MECO and in some cases, SECO, I would rather like to find a way to allow the fire and smoke trail to pass the cockpit just as it did in the Gemeni and Apollo programs. Now THAT wpould be an awsome visual, inside and out.

Yup. That's it.
At Gemini 1st stage MECO, the capsule was engulfed by the exhaust tail and often startled the Astros even though they were expectiong it. The effect happend much faster on the Apollos but was still spectacular.
