Vessel Mars I or Mars II from Mission to Mars

Judging from the date, you'd probably have to dig up and install the pre-2006 version of Orbiter to get it going. Probably not worth the effort. (Although the 2006 version *might* work.)

But you're right. It's a good looking ship, just sci-fi enough but not over the top. Be nice to see it in action.

And a dang shame the screenwriters were far, far less technologically savvy than the modellers!...

Red Planet was the other Mars mission movie from 2000. The spacecraft weren't as well designed but the overall story was better. The characters were okay. There's a line from the movie which resembles what you said:

I actually forgot about that line from Red Planet. Shame too, because I prefer that movie over Mission to Mars, mainly because Mission to Mars has not real plot. And Val Kilmer is quality in my books. And Tom Sizemore, before he got all nuts. And you can rarely go wrong with Terrence Stamp.

Rarely: Terrence Stamp is good. Unfortunately, he was in- dare I say it in this forum- Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

I'm sorry I even mentioned that movie.

Red Planet does take place around 30 years after Mission to Mars. Still, the ship designs didn't cut it for me. They did get the landing craft concept right- inflatable cushions for landing...

I remember when I first saw that animation about how the mars rover would land in it's capsule, bounce around, and then exit and move around the surface. That was in 2003 or so. I believe it was first at the Franklin Institute (Philadelphia PA).

Those were the good old days-an animation like that was really impressive back then. It's just not the same anymore!

Anyway, artificial gravity is often a show-stopper for me, especially when they specifically make the point that the ship has it. Sunshine had a ship with what appeared to be artificial gravity, but they at least had the good sense not to say a word about any of it. All three are good movies.

Unless we sterilized those rovers like scorched planet hit by the shock wave of a supernova, there is most definitely some dead terrestrial bacteria scattered around Mars by now. :)

I don't want to get too off topic.

Maybe someone could make a new mesh of Mars 1. Who's up for it? I would go for it right now, but 1) I've got a really huge project in the works right now and 2) are there blueprints or something for Mars 1 & 2?

Still looking for this? It is over on AVsim,

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=25496

Registration required even just to look, and I haven't downloaded it myself. It's a 2003 build requiring spacecraft.dll (not spacecraft3.dll, just spacecraft -- and no, spacecraft3 does not include spacecraft(1)).

Here,I configure for SC3 module, made a new landing gear animation, add dock and make some tune for configuration file.

SC3 not included.

^ What textures are the models using? Nice job on the SC3 adaptation.

No texture on meshes, painted mesh. I do nothing with meshes, just download from AVSIM,pack it and some tweak with config.

Is it possible to add new textures to this?it"s a very cool addon.

Not likely, you need to covert to manageable 3d file, then make texture, apply texture to model, then covert to mesh again...I think it's easier to make a new model instead rework this existing meshes?!

Where to find tiny people for this spacecraft?

Yeah. I think that's a bit off topic for this thread. But we can start one in the Basement without trouble:)

I liked Mission to Mars. The human drama was very good, and the spacecraft was realistic. The only mistake they made is the same one that was made in Shyamalan's "Signs": they showed the aliens:(

Hardly. The biggest mistake was that the engine blew up when they tried to brake into Mars orbit, and yet somehow they magically wound up in spacesuits floating into the same orbit as the other, older, lander.

In reality, if you miss the braking burn you, and your entire spacecraft, hurtle past Mars and off into the Solar System, and you measure your remaining days by the dwindling life support system.

As I recall, a meteorite strike caused a fuel leak, and when they ignited the engines, the flames caught the fuel and an uncontrolled combustion resulted, and blew up half the ship (slight Apollo 13 copyright infringement?)

You were right tho, those poor little UMMUs should have been flung off into space, never to return:(

I know this and have time, more than a one year, but wanted to know if this project has continued to anyone.
