Note from editor: You know there are bigger fish to fry outside over the past few days so this one have to wait until now. :tiphat:
ANOTHER mystic Chinese satellite?
Well....there are people who loves Chinese mysteries.
Anyway, in what was to be the 1st of 3 launches from the Chinese in a week, a Long March 4C rocket lifted off from LC-9 at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on October 20 at 06:31 UTC.
It was previously rumored that yet another reconnaissance satellite would be on board, so it might turn out to be something new.....but it isn't. The rocket delivered it into a polar orbit 1200 km high , and reveals it to be the 4th member of a series of optical wide-area imaging satellite. YG-22 follows YG-8 (launched December 2009), YG-15 (launched May 2012) and YG-19 (launched November 2013) as this constellation, reported to be mainly targeting maritime targets (read aircraft carriers et al.), seems to reach an operational configuration.
After Chang'e 5-T1 and yet another recent launch, about 5 more are on the schedule for the rest of the year. :tiphat:
