Any Silent Hunter 4 players around here? I just got around to playing it the other day (after many months of watching videos of and reading about it) and I have to say I'm thrilled. :)
I've always enjoyed navigating by compass and chart so that part wasn't hard to pick up. It took me a while, but it's been difficult getting the hang of combat (well, IL-2 experience has me already decent with the AA gun, but that hardly counts.) I've finally sent my first destroyer to the bottom, while patrolling in among the Phillipines:

I had just slipped under him going in the opposite direction, and fired aft tubes 5 and 6 from 650m. He was just coming about, and I was worried I had misjudged and needlessly given away my position, when suddenly I saw the first torpedo burst amidships, blowing him out of the water through my attack periscope. By the time the second torpedo hit the destroyer was already tearing in half. Lucky me! :)

Now I'm left with one destroyer aware of my location (last measured range 2100m) and two loaded tubes, hoping for the best. Wish me luck!

P.S. Orbiter is still in no danger of being replaced...for now.

I actually have been playing it. It is pretty hard. Blew three cargo ships up though in one mission. How fun.

Update:
That's a new record. The program no longer works, so I can't play it. I've spent the past few hours trying to fix it (it tells me I have the wrong disk inserted and refuses to play) with no success. I'm starting to hate technology.

My best joy in SH4 was sneaking into a japanese port at the end of an uneventful patrol and leave some eels there...

Also, destroyers are not really good targets...only the japanese submarines wasted their torpedoes on destroyers and warships, I only had a single cruiser during a whole war...

i wish there was some mod to add the SH3 playability (with the talk-to-crewmen command interface) to SH4....

it would be pretty awesome.....

i like slow-paced simulations  - quick-action games like GTA grow old very fast for me...

Update again:
I have it working, but the only way I could get it was forgoing all of the patches, leaving me with the craptacular 1.0 release...
Ah well, beggars can't be choosers I guess?!

Urwumpe: I would never bother with a destroyer in a campaign. I'm just learning the ropes, so any tonnage down is better than none for now.
