I have used the IMFD to get to mars and the moon, but I just can't figure out how to plan a trip to the Sun? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

why do you want to go to the sun ? dont you think it's a bit hot there ?

Yes, it's like going from moon to earth. Just make a burn at the dark site of the earth to get into a solar orbit.
But I don't think that there is any ship that has engines that are strong enough to land in such a high gravity. And in reallity you would already melt dozens of kilometers before landing.

i just use unlimited fuel to get to wherever im going.
Thanks for the quick replies btw.

careful with the sun, it is a wormhole in disguise

In Earth orbit, hit CTRL-R and set the HUD reference to the Sun. Point yourself retrograde (the AP wont work) and when you're pointing roughly Earth prograde, (so you don't deorbit) start your burn. After escape vel is reached, set OrbitMFD's reference to the Sun and cut your engines when your PeA is as you desire above the Sun's 'surface'.

True, but if you use an .ini-based vessel that has thrust defined in the .ini, you can adjust as needed to get the desired strength (I know, cheating). That's how I deorbited the ISS :P

That's the way I used to get the BSP4 faster than light .

A much more fuel efficient way to get to the sun would be to perform a retrograde sling around Jupiter. I'm sure that IMFD will let you plan this (TransX definitely will).

just to play around I took a DGIV with a fuel cargo into low solar orbit. I got into about a 800k X 800k orbit and the hull was getting very warm according to the reentry screen. Opened my cargo bay, retro burned to get into orbit that intersected about 20k into the surface of the sun jettisoned my cargo then prograde burned to a 800k 450k (approx) orbit then tracked my cargo all the way down to the sun's surface. when It hit the sun, orbitMFD freaked for a bit , the cargo dissapeared then showed the cargo on a stable orbit. I F3'ed to the cargo, and it was sitting on the surface of Mercury. VERY strange

When you do some things that wouldn't be possible, Orbit reacts in this way.
For example I tried for fun to crash on Earth with DG with a very high speed. At the moment of the crash, my DG has been placed very very far from Earth with a speed of 6000M. In some days I was out of the solar system.
It's something like a bug developed to solve some impossible situations placing objects in a stable position.

Sounds like maybe only Pete has actually gone to the sun? What's it look like, in Orbiter?

I'm so used to seeing Mcwgogs' textures, that I'm afraid I'll get closer and closer to the Orbiter sun and find out it's just a little tiny thing. :)

Or is it a very large mesh??
