News How many yachts does a man need?

The 10th law of Moses:
You shall not covet your neighbor house; you shall not covet your neighbor wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Now its his money and legally he can use it for toilet paper if he likes. Think about what you're really saying when you say that you could spend his money better than him.

What would you rather? That he hoards it in a vault where it does nothing? Having somebody else spend their money is almost always good for you.

What if he bought millions of handicrafts from poor areas and lined his house from wall to wall with knick'knacks? Would that make you feel better?

Ain't yours!

Having it spend for me painting his house in a special shade of green and paint my artistic name below it would be far better.

At least for me.

Reading his biography, he's no saint! (Forum where I got the original news) Little better than an opportunistic gangster (like the other oligarches).

Yes. Who is saint anyway? Any why should I hate somebody who is not more saint than I am?

He maybe got rich by making the right decisions at the right time...but he deserves my respect if he manages to stay rich. Abramovich is no money sink, but a big money redistribution machine, which works as long as it can manage the money put into it.

If I want to own my own yacht, I would have to build it myself. But a small used motor yacht (about 12 m long) is already in the visible distance for me from the financial aspect. But I find combustion engines pretty boring.

I want something comfortable with sails. And a good cruising yacht is far harder to get than a boring small motor yacht of the same size.

And I can understand the need to have more than one yacht, but I think one yacht is the right number. You can't really enjoy more than one.

I'm anything but religious, but I got to say it:

"Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone"

Ok, I know, he's probably has done a lot worth things then either you or me, but in terms of money, so what if he spends it around? Heck, I own a $5,000 telescope. How many charities could have benefited from that amount? How many homeless people could I have clothed? How many starving children could I have fed? More importantly, how many people here have spend money on something that could have been spent on the poor and needy, regardless of the scale?

Who are we to dictate where a person spends his money? Sure, disagree with him (I personally would be on the next Soyuz flight, and a few others), but to say he should be shot for it? That's one hell of a statement.

As for him "wasting" his money, I doubt the families of the crew of that yacht would say that, or the engineers, or the construction workers, etc. When people spend money, it doesn't just disapear (not counting taxes :P) it goes to others, most of who properly aren't even remotely as bad as this man.

Not to mention that we spend a lot of money just existing. And where do we stop? Do we really need that many doctors, researchers, lawyers and al? Why don't we spend the money that goes into their studies in charity? Why don't we disband all professional sports teams and give away their money? Why don't we depopulate the whole of Europe - who needs 600 millions of consumers anyway - so that we can redistribute the extra funds needed to feed them?

If I had a million dollars...
I'd buy 5 yachts.

If you only had a million then you'd be out of money quickly! You know what they say about yachts... "They're holes in the water in which you poor your money".

If I had a million dollars I would build/invest in a company that is a sure profit making enterprise, then continue expanding and branching that enterprise for more profit.

... or I would get a airplane. I would rather have an airplane than a boat.

What Tex said about boats being holes in the water for money is correct. And with that in mind, an airplane is just a boat that flies.
