I saw a mention of Orbiter 2010 out there on the Interwebs thingie and was really pleased to see it's finally been released. I installed it with a fresh install and, mirabile dictu, it worked great from the first attempt to start it. The speed of start-up and improvements in the interface jumped right out at me, rusty as my memories of Orbiter 2006 were ...

I'm not going to have much time to try to reignite my romance with Orbiter for weeks, but I wonder if anyone has tips for getting the most out of the new version. For instance, I've got that old installation of Orbiter sitting there with hundreds of megs of addons (including one or two I made back in the Cretaceous period). Any ideas about how to best migrate those over to see if any of them work on the new version? Also, is the default installation of the new version starting up with the highest resolution planetary surface textures running, or do I need to do anything, download higher-res textures?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated ... and a big thank you to Martin and the others who've worked so hard to keep Orbiter fresh!!!

Welcome back to the forums! Also check by Addon Development to see which addons work with 2010.

Get the Hi res textures from here: http://downloadorbiter.com/
Although KSC is at lvl14 the rest isn't.

Your best bet will be reinstalling each addon individually.

As far as we know Spacecraft3 works, however I think most of us would encourage you to try the Lua scripting ;)
A dll vessel without compiling.

There are also some new Graphics clients including OGLA and DX7 clients available from the Orbiter Sourceforge page.

Wow buddy, loooong time no see! How the hell are ya?

As as far as tips&tricks there aren't many. The biggest thing for 2010 is the seperation of graphix and physics engine. Other than that the basic construction of things is the same in regards to bases and craft. Check out Artlavs OGLA client.

Don't worry, your memory will come back when you start to tinker

Good to see you back, Greg.

There has been some question about multistage2 and spacecraft3, but there is a work-around somewhere here and rumor has it vinka's working on an update. I know lots of your add-ons use these.

Welcome back, Greg!

How did I miss this post??? Welcome back Greg!

:hello:

I've been experimenting with your addons with 2010 (as much as my RL busy schedule allows recently) and I thought there were incompatibilities, but it looks like I've probably just been having those same old dependency issues as have happened before when one has missed an install.

Later this week I'm going to redownload all your addons from OrbitHanger in chronological order and build my own definitive Greg Burch MOD directory and then zip it down so I won't have this problem again!

Welcome back, didn't know you had gone away! Your "cretaceous" Pocket Rocket along with Equatorial Bases was one of my favourite addons in Orbiter 2006. I haven't tried them in O2010 yet as Vinka's dlls have a couple of issues.
