Project Gundam world like Addon

Nice-looking project! It's great to see some good old UCG around here.

Just curious, how did you decide on the vehicle's performance? Are there any published figures from the various UC-Gundam medias? The specific impulse is quite high, even for a fusion rocket that can use minovsky particles for containment.
I haven't come across anything of the sort. I don't believe they think too deeply about such things, instead adhering to Rule of Cool. UC did go for a pleasant amount of realism (no magical gravity generators, O'Neill's concept of rotating space colonies, etc.) but 'specific impulse' or 'mass ratio' are probably terms that never passed through the designers' minds.

That said, it might be interesting to attempt to come up with figures and engineering solutions ourselves. :)

The screen with the docking HUD rocks. The best thing about this giant ships is being able to dock to them.

There are some tech specs on MAHQ. However, the apogee engines on a Mobile Suit are not especially powerful: not even the prototype Gundam during the OYW had enough dV to alter its trajectory when about to enter Earth's atmosphere. I doubt it could even enter lunar orbit from the surface. Usually MSs operate from a nearby carrier like a Musai or Pegasus class ship and rely on their own power for the last trip to the battle area, or when on a covert mission to infiltrate a colony without giving away the position of the mothership.

Besides, the apogee thruster on a MS are not fusion rockets, they're simple chemical rockets with heavy limits on fuel reserves. You want dV and plenty of power, Mobile Armours rule. Of course they're large, expensive and unless deployed with plenty of cover, they're bound to be cut to pieces by coordinated action between lower-powered but more agile MSs.

Well, pardon if I wasn't clear but I meant ships like the Musai and Salamis and Pegasus when I mentioned fusion rockets. These clearly are comfortable zipping around cislunar space and I would imagine they use fusion rockets as fusion containment is compact and reliable in this universe.

Ah, OK. Yes, capital ships seem to have some kind of fusion engine, although they still take days to travel from one L-point to another.

One of the things that really set MS Gundam apart from many SF series of the era was that it showed how freakin' big cislunar space is. Yes, it's more populated with the colony Sides at the Lagrange points and a lot of asteroids captured and placed around for mining purposes and the like so there's plenty of places to visit, but all the action is contained well into Earth's neighbourhood. At the time we were used to stories spanning the whole Solar System and way beyond.

Well, the lagrange points are full of trojan asteroids. I think the density there is even hundred times higher than in the asteroid belt. One good reason more for having it in Orbiter. (Sadly only one is known of Earth, Jupiter has way more)

[OT]I mentioned "trojan asteroids" to someone, once, which prompted the question 'What is a trojan asteroid?"
Me: It's a hollowed-out asteroid.
Him: Really?
Me: Yeah. And it's full of armed Greeks.
[/OT]

Interestingly all Greeks except Hector are running away from the Trojans.

There is a fine addon for the Jupiter Trojans. For Earth, it's not terribly hard to fudge one by placing third-party asteroids at Earth's Trojan points, and Moon-Earth Lagranges points along with O'Neill colonies, making it not unlike the UC-era Earth system. Nothing as strangely-shaped as Solomon out there, of course. :P

Not too odd, they throw better parties.

Anyway, just re-watched the Zeta Gundam episode with the Asshimar (ep 13, with the shuttle launch). The Asshimar is quite small for a Mobile Armor, being barely larger than Kamille's Gundam Mk II, but it does have plenty of power, being able to chase a shuttle during lift-off (though it's probably on a suborbital trajectory). It took It's a very borderline unit.

On the other hand, the cobbled-up (and way bigger) Apsalus was capable of unassisted suborbital flight as well (being meant to attack the Jaburo underground base while falling towards it).

Funny thing, the episode's battle is at Cape Canaveral. Two old shuttles sit on Pad A and B (though they're way more advanced than any stuff we have now) and the Titan pilot flying the Asshimar is called Buran. The AEUG pilots later mention they have "friends at Vandenberg". :)

One of the shuttle pilots refer to the cockpit as 'retro' too. As it clearly is modeled after STS's flight deck

Now, i have the addon in OH, now, the tough part...
waiting for the transforming thing to come out!
:coffee:

I really like this addon... I've been hoping for classic Gundam stuff in Orbiter since I discovered it.

Let alone A Bao A Qu.

Shoot, I really need to find the time to finish off the O'Neill colony I made... I was thinking about it the other week and now I'd probably just start over - There are too many z-fighting issues and I know I could do a better job with the design and make a colony worthy of declaring independence from Earth.

How can I say thanks?? Well first lets say this is amazing I have waited for this forever and I'd like to thank the almighty for answering my prayers
(now all we need is weapons, the battle ships, more MA's and a online battle lol)

Thanks for the great work Tansoku
