It all started yesterday:
My girlfriend and I were messing around (no, nothing dirty), and for some reason, she hit me in the ear with her hand cupped. My ear rang painfully, and whenever I would hear something in that ear, it would be a higher pitch compared to the other ear. After I went home, I got a PAINFUL headache that kept me up until about 3 in the morning.

This morning, I continued to work on my space station. I tried getting the Dragonfly to work, but even with reading the manual, nothing seemed to work. And for some unknown reason, at random times (I'd be taxiing, for instance), orbiter would crash. I never though anything of it, until during one crash, my Current State scenario file no longer had all the vessels in it. GONE. My backup (an autosave module) also encountered this problem. Five hours of work, GONE. At that point, I shut off my computer and watched some TV.

When I came back, I powered up my computer...and it just Hung there with the Fan spinning fast. I powered down and tried again. Same thing. So, I unplugged my Joystick and tried, and i was able to get to my desktop. However, my desktop was frozen, so i powered down again and re-tried, and it worked.

So, I launch the "base" scenario (an Ariane 6 at Wideawake), I hit the P autopilot to launch the Hera to rebuild my station. Then ANOTHER bug occurs: It would fall off the pad (see a thread I made). Then I decided "Okay, screw the Ariane 6, i'll just carry it up in an XR-5". After messing around with the .scn and the scenario editor for about a HALF HOUR, i got all the vessels where they needed to be. So, i extracted the Hera payload, and used UCD to try to fit it in the XR-5's bay...Its to big.

After futzing around with the modules in the modules tab, i FINALLY got the Ariane 6 to work properly. But, I launched a DGIV at the same time and Azimuth to meet with it. Since the DGIV is on an autopilot, I figured it could handle itself while I put a URMS on one of the XR-5's. I make the URMS, attach it to the core vessel...and now, I cant seem to move it relative to the XR-5. Orbiter then hangs for about a second, at which point I cant press F3 and make the vessel selection appear (It normally does this in windowed mode), so I exit out and restart. I select the DGIV to see how its doing, and I find the Autopilot has stopped, probably due to the fact that I closed the program. Okay, fine, I'll just restart it...false. My most recent problem is that whenever I select the panel view in the DGIV, I get a crash. Orbiter.log says this:
**** WARNING: Mesh not found: .\Meshes\.msh

I'm afraid to go to bed because maybe the roof will fall on me? Maybe someone will break into our house and steal everything, but our dogs wont hear it? Maybe the milk I just drank is expired or has some rare, deadly virus that gets passed along by eye contact? Its all possible when God hates you.

It's not god that hates you. It's the probe. Try some appeasement ritual or something.

Sounds more like a virus than anything. If you can try doing a virus scan, if it hangs, do it in safe mode. If at all else fails, try using another computer to see if you can re-simulate these crashes.

yeah sounds like a virus to me also and yeah i feel your pain i was building a station i launched the first piece into orbit on a Ariane 6 then when i was launching a xr5 with a full cargo bay of parts to build it when i started the engines on the xr5 for take off i saw a fire ball in the sky it was the main part i launched on the Ariane 6 it re-entered but good timing i think lol

I dont think it'd be a Virus, I dont have any other problems with other programs, plus Spybot - S&D isn't getting anything. I'm still stumped on that DGIV thing though...

I agree, The Probe has most certainly taken a dislike to you or your activities, which are surely signs of His Smite. Your only recourse is likely to jump on the Deep Space Network and hail the Mighty Probe, begging for forgiveness....

:P

Neither of the programs you mention pick up some types of virus. you need to install a dedicated scanner... and whatever you do, AVOID NORTON! many viruses target Norton exclusively. but sometimes the dedicated ones don't pick up little annoyances like the "feedback loop virus" witch is a small batch file that executes itself like a cell divides(1 to 2 2 to 4 4 to 6 ect. ect.) until your computer locks up or re-starts.

I'd be cautious of ANYTHING right now. rumour has it that a new bot-net just went up.

I'm doubting it being a virus. My first suggestion would be to remove and reinsert your RAM and check any other connections you wish to.

Do a defrag, run scandisk, and for crying out loud, make peace with The Probe! It is clear that The Probe is jealous of you "messing around" with your girlfriend instead of completing your mission in Orbiter. You're lucky you got your PC back at all. Do it again, and Probe may wipe your hard drive completely.

Use Malwarebytes and SuperAnti Spyware. They work like a charm. n122vu, you only need to defrag the computer unless he uninstalled a very large file. Other than that it is not really relevant in my experiences. Also, use Ccleaner to clean your registry and see how much temporary files you have that didn't get deleted. ;) Trust me, they work. Spybot is good, but it doesn't pick up everything. IF you do pick something up and it locks itself use FileAssasain from Malwarebytes and search it up on your computer. I had an IRCBot trojan once and thought I got rid of it, but I searched IRC on my computer and found everything of it. Its gone now.

I'd recommend doing a defrag once a week as a rule if running Windows. It has nothing to do with large files, but the way Windows organizes files in general on a hard drive that causes fragmentation. Some think once a week is overkill, and it might be, but I can attest to the fact that in a week you generally start getting a little fragmentation anyway, in the range of 5-10% from what I've seen on most of the PCs I support.

I've seen suggested for years to do a defrag and scandisk before and after installing software to ensure optimal hard drive performance and elimination of file errors. This is a bit of overkill in my opinion, but if you do it and it gets you better performance, then go for it.

I also recommend CCleaner as MJR suggested. Spybot definitely misses a few things. I think it's a good idea to have at least 2 or three anti-malware scanners installed. We use Spybot, AdAware, & Windows Defender. They don't catch everything, but the three of them together get about 90% or so of the infections we've seen.

You can also run regedit and look for suspicious or weird files.

If I was you, I'd go to doctor to check my ear.

If you use XP SP3 you may need a Microsoft security patch that is available somewhere (can't remember where) which seemed to reduce the crashes I experienced. It seems that it address some issues of the available .Net framework.

To check for installation problems...

Orbiter does not react very well with .cfg and .msh files that have 0 bytes length. Just delete them.

If I was you, I'd go to bed. A slapping may take your brain out of balance and if you are tired or emotionally affected, it may not help. Sleep, get relaxed and then go back to life. God loves you, but the biochemistry of your brain is cheating you to think something else.

Kaito, at least you have a girlfriend to cause ringing-ear pain. :P
Some of us aren't that lucky.

Right. For example me, being single since August 1996.

Disregard those posts. God hates anyone that believes in science.
