Gaddafi captured and wounded: NTC official

TRIPOLI | Thu Oct 20, 2011 7:25am EDT

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been captured and wounded in both legs, National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid said on Thursday.

"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs ... He's been taken away by ambulance," the senior NTC military official told Reuters by telephone.

Finally some good news.

Although, shot in both legs might be a bit overkill. I don't think they were both shot while he was running...

The probably wanted to make sure he couldn't get away. That is why he was shot in both legs. Thank God for this capture :)

that guy really had this one coming - good job there, the world is a little better place now :salute:

Muammar Gaddafi 'killed' in gun battle
Reports say that toppled leader and the head of his armed forces have both been killed, following the fall of Sirte.
Last Modified: 20 Oct 2011 12:06

A senior NTC official has said that Muammar Gaddafi has died of his wounds after being captured near Sirte.

Earlier, Jamal abu-Shaalah, a field commander of NTC, told Al Jazeera that the toppled leader had been seized, but it was not clear whether he was dead or alive.

"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs ... He's been taken away by ambulance," Abdel Majid, a senior NTC military official said.

Majid also said that Abu Bakr Younus Jabr, the head of Gaddafi's armed forces, was killed during the capture of Gaddafi.

The news came shortly after NTC claimed capturing Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown, after weeks of fighting.

NATO and the US state department said it cannot confirm the reports of Gaddafi's death. Meanwhile in Benghazi, crowds gathered in the streets to start celebrating the reports of Gaddafi's death.

I think I guessed their mind state right.

A capture & trial would be better for the future of Libya. Now what is done is done. Let's see what the country becomes now.

I'll wager he'll be killed off. There's to many in the west that would be tainted and that would never do, would it. Better to do the dirty laundry in the dark and keep it there.

I wish the Libyian people the best.

Just as bad as when Qaddafi was the leader. IIRC the resistance was worse than Qaddafi. Libya will just continue down the path of failure.

He died fighting. Qaddafi managed to fool the whole array of NATO forces for seven months, and led cohesive defense longer than anyone predicted. Unlike Saddam Hussein, Col.Qaddafi was lucky to evade the humiliation of torture and a set-piece trial.
