FIREBIRD  I
Heavy Launch Vehicle

+
MAKATEA SPACE CENTER

Firebird I is a near-future heavy launch vehicle. It is purely fictional, but it's goal is to be as realistic as possible. It is based on multistage2 module and works with Orbiter 2010 P1.

This package brings two basic versions of the rocket: a two-stage version to carry up to 50 tons of payload to low orbit and a three-stage version to carry up to 17 tons of payload to geosynchronous orbit. It generally belongs to the same category as SpaceX's proposed Falcon Heavy.

The rocket comes with it's own space center. An abandoned pacific island, 240 km northeast of Tahiti, French Polynesia turned into a modern space center with two launch pads, service buildings, a small harbour, an airport, and a tiny settlement for employees and tourists coming from nearby Tahiti to watch a big rocket liftoff.

Each launchpad has a controllable launch tower and a transport train.

This addon is not a professional's work, just a result of my limited self-taught-addon-developing experience since 2007. For my older addons, search for “Cizurator“ on Orbit Hangar Mods web.

Amazing work! I can't wait to use this launcher (among with others) to build a spacestation. As soon as i figure out how to add custom payloads, anyway. I like the custom sounds and voices too!
Thanks for the awesome add-on :)

Thanks! The voice you hear is my own voice (pitched down a bit, because i have cough at the moment:rolleyes:). I tried to imitate american accent:lol:.

The basic custom payload help is in the readme. More informations can be found in multistage2 package readme by Vinka.

Great job!! Can't wait to try it out...

It looks like a solid piece of work .

Just a suggestion, but would you be willing to include a velcro rockets version in a future update? I find that a lot more useful than multistage 2.

Unfortunately I have zero experience with Velcro. I thought that when even Italians make their great Jarvis and Neptune rockets in mulstistage2, it must be the most up-to-date way to make a rocket. I don't handle any other way after all. :)

I believe it's not so hard, so maybe I will try it with Velcro. But studying the new system will surely take some time, which I don't have at the moment. I'm glad I finished this damn rocket before the school exams begin. :coffee: Thanks for your suggestion!

Well, I dont claim to be that big of an expert on it, but I would say velcro is a much better platform to work from. Thanks for considering it:tiphat:

Makatea? Remind me not to fly from there back to Tahiti with Harris Freight...

Looks cool though! Downloading, will try it out after I eventually also get time to try new Arrow, etc.

Yes, this is that Makatea Island from the movie Six Days and Seven Nights.

A very nice and original launch vehicle.
Why that curious "trilobal" configuration of the first stage?

I don't know why it has that configuration, but it reminds me of the Proton rocket (the first stage looks like it has six boosters, but they are all part of the same stage) and the tri-coupler from Kerbal Space Program.

Well...............done

The Proton first stage is, in fact, an assembly of seven distinct tanks: one central oxidizer tank and six surrounding fuel tanks. The Firebird first stage seems to me more a monolithic structure, only with a trilobal cross section instead of circular.

You know, I looked at the Soyuz rocket and told to myself: ,,I could always recognise that shape. It must be something recognisable, something different. All those Falcons, Deltas and Zenits look the same."
So I took a piece of paper and draw several sketches. And this one is the winner:)

Great work! I've only got a small visual nit-pick... And this is only really due to a financial issue from a not-real VSA.

The fairing mimics the trefoil shape of the rest of the rocket, and when the fairing is ejected, the upper and lower halves are not symmetrical. From a construction point of view, I thought it'd be cheaper to make 3 identical sections, rather than 2 very different sections.

This makes sense. The resulting shape of your rocket is very interesting!

Speaking of realism, this shape can lead to a increased weights, manufacturing difficulties and then, costs. But the aesthetics are nice ;-)

Of course, circle is circle.

You're right. I thought about such a solution, but I started to develop a two-sections fairing, because I couldn't find anything about multistage2 support for 3-sectioned one.

Really nice job Cizurator,Thanks:thumbup:
Any chance for a future update, where the Firebird transporter actually can move the rockets from the Vab to the Launchpad?this is really a cool base ,and it would be nice to see the buildings a little more detailed too,but if that's all you can do,than it's still very good, and thanks again for all your hard work. Also would it be possible to launch the Gorizont 1 from this base?

I'm afraid somebody would have to do this for me. If I knew how to do that transportation, It would be already in the basic package. Only the transporter mesh is quite ready for it. About the buildings - yes, more detailed buildings would be good. But now I'm not master of my time. I completed the rocket just before my school exams begun, I was glad didn't have to delay the whole release for two months. That's the reason, why those buildings were done quickly and with less details, and why I can't repair them earlier than in mid February.
