Just curious, what are my fellow Orbinauts' favorite fighter aircraft? (Strike aircraft are allowed, too.)

It may sound a little strange, but I must confess a long-time affinity for the F-5E Tiger II. Okay, sure it's no match for, say, the F-16 or Su-27, but the F-5 is just a neat-looking little plane, sleek-looking and agile.

Other favorites of mine: A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, MiG-29, Su-24 Fencer.

I think the one I like the most is the P38 Lightning. Such a futuristic design for its time !

I think my favorite plane depends on the era...
WWII had some nice ones, the aforementioned P-38 is a beauty, as is the Spitfire. My favorite of that age though is the P-47 Thunderbolt. Big and tough, not as fast or pretty as the Mustang, but very good at getting the job done.
The ME-262 has nice lines on it as well. And I've got a soft spot for the F-86 Sabre, just something about a jet that looks that nice, with eight (8) .50 cal's.

F-15. The only fighter to shoot down a satellite....and I do so love the lines on the F15.

Eurofighter Typhoon.

I also have to add the Harrier which was retired from service earlier this week.

If I would have to select a WW2 era fighter, I can't really choose between the Me 262 for its shark like appearance, or the F6F Hellcat for being the real workhorse in the pacific and its really no-thrills appearance.

They retired the Harrier?! I never heard about that:ohsnap:
Man, I loved that thing:(

The Korean War produced some of my favorites as well. The early jets were heavily armed for their time, and had serious muscle (F-84 Thunderjet, F-86, P-51D Mustang)

I love the Tornado's, especially when one flies dead low right above you on a training mission while you are at the summit of one of argyl's many mountains! However the defence cuts that retired the Harrier may close down the Tornado base in Scotland :(

It is sad to see the Harrier go, such a fantastic and unique piece of kit!

And its not a fighter per-se, but you can't help but love a T-38 in NASA livery :)

Ground attack aircraft: F117 because of its weird shape, A10 - it just looks (and is) so badass.
Fighters: Harrier - when watching videos of Harrier hovering I often catch myself thinking about Deltaglider prototype:lol:
Mig 25, heck it still holds the highest altitude record achieved by jet aircraft

no doubt, A-10! :headbang:

can't beat a plane built around a gun!

F-86 Sabre or the English Electric Lightning one for its sheer looks the other for its performance.

and the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird as a possible as it was developed as an interceptor as well but not operational. ( look up Lockheed YF-12)

The CF-105 Avro Arrow with the Orenda Iiriquois engines is my favorite, along with the F-86, F-100, F-4, F-5, F-16, F-15, P-51, and the P-40.

I'd have to go with Supermarine Spitfire and P-51D Mustang for newer one I'd say F-15.
