Thanks! Worked:

Subtle change: I used the _drg configuration of the launcher, with the Dragon adapter, no fairing.
FalconHeavy:Falcon9H\f9h_drg

Have to look after the nose cone and solar panels, but this is minor.

Test flight results:
39.8 k fuel left at parking orbit insertion (~42%)
Had to cheat and replenish the 2nd stage RCS fuel via the scenario file.
(It is mentioned in the doc that RCS fuel is very limited.)

Restarted the 2nd stage and let it burn until fuel was depleted.
12.48 km/s at burnout --> they never come back :salute:

Just change to PAYLOAD CONFIGURATION 0 on the Dragontrunk

---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM ----------

I should have said change the Dragontrunk PAYLOAD CONFIGURATION 0

OK, BrianJ, I must admit: to see these boosters going in reverse and land is strangely fascinating.
It seems to me always a little “unnatural”... not your simulation, but the concept as whole… but remains interesting!

Fly me to the moon ...
Maybe not the most exact moonshot of all times, but good enough for a figure-8 swingby around the moon. Kept the Falcon Heavy upper stage attached until after the midcourse correction maneuver.

Great work, you've brought me back to Orbiter after a 6 month hiatus!

I've used the Dragon scenario you posted, but I'm wondering if the autopilot could be adapted to throttle down and keep the G-forces below 3 g. Currently getting 4.1 g just before core stage burnout. Of course flying manually I could do it but would be handy to have that added for the sake of realism.

No problem, that would be quite a simple modification to make. I thought I read somewhere it was a 4g limit? Anyway, back soon with an update for you :-).

Would love to know what the nominal peak deceleration is for the 1st stage during flyback - currently about 6g in my add-on, but lowering that will take even more fuel.

Cheers,
BrianJ

Quite possibly, but as I'm using the FH for a crewed launch the typical man-rated limit is 3. And thanks!

Ah, I see. Should I update the OH version to the 3g limit? I'll have a think about that :-)

3g limit .dll's for Falcon9R and FalconHeavy in the attached .zip here. Unzip into Orbiter folder as usual and overwrite original dll's.

Cheers,
Brian

The Falcon Heavy is pretty versatile. Here with the Orion MPCV weighting 22 ton. The vessel reaches orbit with 27% fuel left in the upper stage. An alternative to the SLS?

I wish the Falcon had 2 payload attachment points. Then the LAS could be on the first one and the MPCV on the second one, so I could jettison them in sequence.

Hi,
I had been thinking about how to handle multiple payloads. For the multiple OG-2 sats launch I made the ESPA with multiple attach points that added the payload masses. A similar thing could be done with spacecraft3.dll but it wont add the payload masses, I guess.

I'll add another attachment point for the time being, and maybe make an OH update with more attachment points and relevant HUD display info later.

Back soon.

Here y'go, new dll for FalconHeavy only. Can handle 2 payloads. Attachment points are at the same place at centre of payload interface ring. Set up attachments in scenario or press P to add 1st payload, then P again to add 2nd payload. Jettisoned in reverse order, 2nd payload first.

.zip attached, unzip into Orbiter folder as usual.

Hi BrianJ this is some fantastic work I am really enjoying it so far,one question does the latest DLL with the 2nd payload option you have posted have the 3G limiter included with it too?BTW thanks for making this.

Yes, it does.

Orion on Falcon Heavy, staging. Thanks for the 2nd attachment point!
Please pardon my makeshift LAS fairing :)

Minor note: The 2nd attachment point does not follow the mass center shift at staging, that is why the LAS here is rendered ahead of the ship, looking like it has been jettisoned. The LAS is non-functional, so it just drops away from the rocket.

Could you integrate PayloadManager to it? IIRC, that's what Loru did with HCLV.

Doh! Knew I forgot something. Will fix asap.

I haven't used PayloadManager but I'll have a look.

I'm tending to think maybe 3 attachment points should be sufficient. If it's a multiple sat launch like OG-2 then you'll need a custom payload dispenser of some sort.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas.
BrianJ

One more FalconHeavy update:
Two attach points (2nd attach point shift bug fixed)
Max.Accel during launch is configurable from the .cfg with line
Code:
AccelerationLimit =
(.cfg examples included, units are m/s^2, min.20, default is 40)

Cheers,
BrianJ
