Project ETS-Evolved Transport System

shouldnt the cargo version also have Exhaust guards on the lower fuselage? as they are in those images they'll be destroyed when you get to ~65km on re-entry

also, by the size of them, id guess that they have quite high thrust, allowing for possibly executing bursts to extend the glide further on initial base approach? that would be good, since it allows more room for "orbinaut error"

Outer layers of nozzles is made of the same protective layer as heatshield so they shouldn't be destroyed. I'm thinking of getting rid of it in passenger version too. It will be remodelled during this weekend.

As for engines - they're quite powerfull and thrust can sustain (barely) level flight in atmosphere. It may be usefull to fire it in the atmosphere to extend crossrange but amount of fuel would last for not more than one additional landing attempt.

you think making them out of heatshield will help? i was thinking that the hypersonic air would literally rip them off. they dont put that stuff on the real shuttle for a joke you know, thats probably the part under the greatest strain (technical term) because of the lack of support and relativley thin build

its no big deal, but to keep with realism you should really put one on there

I'll try to model some local heatshields for them.

enroute to jupiter with 2300kg payload on high energy upper stage (not named yet :P )

jto.jpg

Basic specs:
Empty mass: 2400 kg
Fuel mass: 25000 kg
Fuel: LH2/LOX
Thrust: 350kN total

about the same specs of my space tug concept:

Propellants: 25000 kg (Lox/LH2).
Empty mass: 2900 kg.
Engine: 1 RL-10-B-2 or 1 Vinci (i have not yet decided).
Thrust: 110 to 180 kN depending on the engine chosen.

While launcher is being coded some payloads (for cargo version of launcher) are taking shape.

Here is Navigator Class Flyby Probe (WIP):

Still no instruments and covers butthat is basic shape.

And first scientific payload ready.

Deployable instrument arms, extandable RTG booms and dish reciever

Few shots of the thing along with hi-energy upper stage.

Yet another developement update.

1.) Launcher is now fully configurable via config files (it uses multiple config files so you can create every possible option from this)

2.) New fairings has been added.

Current fairing list:
for 4 meter diameter (Single stage or Hi-energy upper stage):

diameter x height
- 6 x 7meter
- 6 x 12 meter
- 5 x 5 meter
- 5 x 8 meter

there are usually few meters left in nose section of fairing

3.) High Energy Stage is incorporated into code and can be used either to put large payloads on GTO/GEO or throwing interplanetary spacecrafts

Here are the pics of Cargo Version with 6x7 Fairing during ascent

The probe is very nice. I'm working on something like this for my "Galileo II" orbiter for Jupiter.

How much cargo will the cargo version be able to take to LEO?

Depends on configuration but with carefull trajectory it's around 30 tons

working on proper abort/explosion visuals & routines

Maybe a little red ? ;)

Depends of the fuel you use, of course.

I don't consider this texture ready. It was like about 20 minutes in photoshop to make that one for testing. I'll fiddle with it more for sure.

Core stage: Kerosene/LOX
SRB: APCP
GEO/GTO stage: Kerosene/LOX
Hi-Energy upperstage: LH2/LOX

Excellent!!!

It's a bit hard to judge from a still, but I'd make it a tad less "dark".

Dev team is still working on the texture & derbis

And here we have mobile launch platform in construction

mlp001.jpg

awesome launch platform! even if it isnt actually Mobile, but just a base object... or do you plan to make it an actual moving object?

I'm pretty sure it's going to be mobile
