So @Urwumpe put this on my radar:

This particular vehicle has it all - vertical air rotor, water propeller, flotation, drive wheels, and optional skis, all the physics I have been tinkering with with my previous Lua script addons. This could be a really fun add-on for me to code and for everyone to fly. It's obviously a cartoon, but something semi-realistic could be coded.

The catch - as usual, I can't make a mesh worth beans. I made some crude flattened egg fuselages in Blender, and I think I could now make some simple rockets and simpler aircraft meshes now, but I simply am not up to doing a proper job on this model.

So again I am looking for a meshing partner in my quest to make the Fliewatüüt from the 1972 West German TV series. There are internet rumors about a live action movie remake of this in 2016, but I am assured that those are merely rumors and no further mention of that hallucination should be made, privately or publicly.

I'd really like to get Robbi and Tobbi in it as well, with animations of both, including Robbi's mechanical bits. Animated doors, cockpit instruments and lights, foldable gear-driven rotor and water propeller blades, wheels, fuel door (fueled by raspberry juice / Himbeersaft). If we're going to do this, we're going to do this properly or not at all.

I've attached a zip file with a series of still images from the TV show that might be useful for modeling reference and textures. The actual model of the Fliewatüüt is on display in a museum in Sylt, and this video has a number of very good detail views and images of it and the puppets in that exhibit:

If anyone is interested and enthusiastic about partnering in this quest and would like to make the meshs, let me know. I'd like to see this happen.

Nice little project!:)
Are there any schematics or is the side shot the best? Dimensions? And there would be a few technical questions, most noteably the rotors are too small and how those it cancel gyration or yaw? Pixi dust and stick to the original? You'll probably have to fudge the bouyancy too?
Robbi would be quite easy to do, but altogether there are quite a few details, my concern would be the time frame, my available time is somewhat sporadic and there are many better and certainly faster than I. Although I do have a bit of a Heli buzz at the moment.

And you have to include the music!:D

Yeah, the music would be great, but you can expect it to be copyright protected, and thus liable to GEMA sized licensing costs

Seriously!?! even when non commercial? What's the sample length limit for copyright?:p

There is this, but it does not match the model very well. There are no side or front views. I tried to get some stills of these views for reference.
Dimensions?
I'm assuming Tobbi is about ~1.5 m tall. It would have to be scaled from that. The actual model shown in the exhibit is perhaps 50% scale by my estimation.

Pixi dust and stick to the original. The thing runs on raspberry juice. There will need to be some artistic license as it is a puppet show, but I think I can make something that behaves plausibly to known physics but will still be fun. The flight scenes are shot from an MD500 so there is a known performance point.

I'll need to estimate the mass and put the center of gravity very, very low. When it floats the bottom of the doors are just in the water. I can get that model to work, no problem.

It might be best to make Robbi, Tobbi, and the Fliewatüüt as separate meshes that could be loaded separately. There are quite a lot of animations just in the Fliewatüüt. This will take a while one way or the other. Perhaps we can see who might be interested and divide the labor.

I wish! It's a pretty great tune for a children's show. I believe the producer was a jazz musician. I don't doubt the copyright issues though, unfortunately.

Fliewatüüt? Isn't that Plätt and roughly translates as "Fly what does"?

The GEMA knows no non-commercial use. If you are musician and publish your music via GEMA, you can't publish any of your music non-commercial. Oh, and GEMA assumes that you are a member of it, unless you can prove otherwise.

Yes, GEMA is hell. Its likely the organisation with the worst satisfaction by its members, since you are not allowed to leave GEMA....

If you want to to do individual animations for the characters anyway this is a good idea

I know no musician who does not have his personal beef with GEMA.
My head canon is still that Mr. Clete did not fully die when crashing down a gorge in the mountains outside Ankh-Morpork, but that his spirit found a way to our reality (it's happened before...) and founded GEMA... 🤷‍♂️

It's a shame, I've seen many give in, it's a little repressive for new talent. But Germany's great for production, go abroad, get famous, and come back for the studio.

I am still sure that P'terry was inspired by a GEMA bureaucrat, despite contrary claims.

OK, I've "angebissen":

Where's the location of the "Raspberry Hatch" (no pun intended), left side?
Left side I believe. It is shown in the exhibit video in detail, and is shown in use in one of the show videos.

EDIT: Here are some screen captures. There was apparently a plastic funnel in the show that isn't in the model anymore.

The grey paint and the rivets reminds me of the A-10s I used to work on. Was Tobbi expecting the Fliewatüüt to take ground fire? So much potential for a dark adult fanfic.

And the other side is blank?
I think I've got the main shape pretty close to the original, without a plan view it's a bit of guess work and takes a few itirations.
Currently cleaning up the cutaways, curved cuts in an elipsoid are always fun to do!
