NASA's CYGNSS (Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System) satellite constellation.

Eight satellites carried to orbit by PegasusXL, air-launched from L-1011 "Stargazer" 

Add-on inc. CYGNSS satellites and Deployment Module, recompiled .dll modules for L-1011 Stargazer and PegasusXL, launch scenario for 15 Dec.2016. Installation and operation notes in Doc/CYGNSS/cygnss_readme.txt.

Is it me, or are airfoils less effective in Orbiter 2016 compared to previously?
 
Is it me, or CYGNSS look like a KH-9 subsat?

I always enjoy a PegasusXL launch, and it's a nice dawn take-off for this one :-) The way they plan on using atmospheric drag to control orbital position of the satellites is interesting, also.

The Stargazer takeoff speed of 120m/s = 230 knots.

Is it me, or are airfoils less effective in Orbiter 2016 compared to previously?
I had to tweak the "Stargazer" aerodynamics a bit to get it to fly. Take-off speed is too high (as you say), although thrust and mass should be about right. Increasing the lift makes take-off speed lower but normal flight becomes "floaty" (can't think of a better word). Flaps do give extra lift but also a lot of drag, so better for landing than take-off. Interesting to note that you can just go screaming along the ground at 200m/s, lift exceeds weight but no take-off until you pull back full on the elevators. I'm not great at aerodynamics, so maybe someone can do it better(code is included in .zip).

Hmm, ok, it doesn't do this anymore. Then again, I have changed quite a bit of stuff since I saw the behaviour described above.
 
Are you going to make a orbiter 20010 version of this?

I wasn't planning to, but attached is a .zip with a patch for Orbiter2010, you will also need to install "Iris" add-on [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=6178"]IRIS[/ame]

So required add-ons are:
CYGNSS
CYGNSS patch for O2010
Stargazer and PegasusXL
Iris

Updated on OH - new aerodynamics for L-1011, variable Flaps, can now takeoff at 80m/s.
I reduced the distance to the rear-wheel touchdown points, which reduced the turning moment due to weight, enabling the the elevator to pull the nose up at 80m/s. Hope it handles better.
 
Quick check to make sure that the reported wind speed and direction are coming directly from Orbiter 2016 core and not being affected by this add-on.

I was initially a bit shocked to see the wind reaching 20-30 m/s (40 to 60 knots) at altitude, but then I did some reading. I never realized that this is actually a fairly moderate and realistic value for winds aloft. Flying at high altitude (10-12km) is often like flying through a hurricane, wind-wise. :blink:

I'm always amazed at how BrianJ finds the time, the resources, the ability and the motivation to publish in real-time this endless list of realistic addons.

Far too much time spent in Orbit. I should pay more attention to making money ;-)

Doh! I think I got the wrong runway at KSC too. Need to do another update.
 
I tried to target 514 x 514 km by hand, but Pegasus can't quite make it.

Also, is the wind dir. reporting the direction the wind is blowing to or blowing from? I suspect the former but the later is more conventional.

Update 170112 on OH:
Changed launch scenario date, more fuel aboard PegasusXL and autopilot set for 520km orbit alt. Stargazer Wind Direction now shows wind origin, take off runway switched to CCAFS.
