There is a rather large button on top of every page on OF titled Orbiter Tutorials.
In the section titled "Tutorials for Addon Developers" the first entry links to [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2733"]Tutorial: How to create surface bases[/ame].

Happy Orbiting

Surface base wizard is not a tool for newbies.
It is for people who know how to edit surface bases in notepad.
When I made my Alysimia addon I started to plan my base and tried to populate the city with buildings, following certain rules so I would need to use visuals. But suddenly I found that I had about 1000 objects and it became hard to be aware of where everything was. So I made this tools as a visual aid.

I was coding along the way (cowboy coding) instead of passing through a design process. Since there was no other existing tool, I had no point of reference. Also, it was my third really "big" program I made in Visual Basic, after I had learned BASIC for DOS.

I know it is not the best tool of the world. Hopefully some day someone else will make a better tool.

Wow, I must be blind. Can you put it in a red circle?

It's far less visible then you would think. Let's be nice ;).

Circles are out for today. I only have a few boxes left:

Albeit it not beeing directly visible on every skin, overlooking it resembles missing the save dialog in the file menu.
Besides, I said "Happy Orbiting"

On a side note... I came to realize how funny smileys is the change the meaning of a phrase, using existing forum smileys.

For example:

Let's be nice :P
Let's be nice ;)
Let's be nice
Let's be nice
Let's be nice :(
Let's be nice :censored:
Let's be nice :stirpot:
Let's be nice :compbash:
Let's be nice :blackeye:
Let's be nice :OMG:

:humorsense:

...ok, I will use my sense of humor responsibly.:speakcool:

I was just pointing out that there is not a

When I first saw the forum I didn't expect the buttons on top to be menus, and the person who made this thread might have done the same. That's why I said, "It's far less visible then you would think".

I don't even have that row of buttons on this default skin.

It is similar, but looks different and has no "orbiter" section. Mine goes - UserCP Blogs Community FAQ Projects Donate Calendar Today's Posts New Posts Search Quick Links and Log Out.

You must be using the vBulletin skin?

Some of the other skins have the large buttons above the navbar which TSPenguin was referring to. Those big buttons included 'Orbiter Tutorials' , 'Recommended Addons' and more, but the vBulletin skin does not have them - it also doesn't have the Orbiter menu shown in the screen shot above since it's as close to the default vBulletin skin as possible. You can find the same Orbiter links to tutorials, addons, and more in the 'Quick Links' menu on the vBulletin skin.

I've been thinking of writing a tutorial regarding base construction. Not quite along the lines of AR81's (those towers are cool looking BTW), but more detailed that the one of the Orbiter wiki...
Nothing too detailed, but enough for a newbie to get started. First would be placement, then how the buildings (hangers, blocks, tanks) lay out using a grid (graph paper) as a reference. Another thing would be what the numbers mean listed after the object (coordinates, height, rotation, scale...) And perhaps a little checklist of things to consider (antenna farm, solar farm, etc.).
Does anyone think that this may be a useful undertaking, or has it already been done?

It would certainly be useful to me.

I'll start putting the outline together tonight. I may have something decent for a tuesday (joke...) release.

sorry everybody.
i was busy, i can't read all post, but i am very happy about all answers.
Now i will try to do the tutorials.
thanks for all.

I stayed up way too late tonight it together. But, it's done! You can't build Port Dao with it, but I think it's pretty OK. I uploaded it to the 'Hanger, and it's my first upload, so I've got to wait until it gets reviewed.
So, it'll probably be out by Tuesday.

Now it's bedtime.
