The depicted mission represents the gradual escalation of the
hostilities between the Soviet Union and the United States...
Kill one spysat in the Molniya or sun-synchronous orbit.
You could try taking out the geostationary satellite but it is
quite hard.
The sun-synchronous Keyhole looks like the easiest target,
but please remember you're limited by launch inclinations less than
90 degrees, so either manual steering or plane alignment maneuvers
are in order.
The Molniya-orbit Ferret can be intercepted in the periapsis at
high relative speeds, which may prove too much for the ASAT terminal
autopilot, so use of Attitude MFD with lateral and vertical speed
nulling (Shift-Numpad 7) is recommended.
As this is interception and not rendez-vous, matching speeds during
terminal phase is not currently required.
In future versions the targets may be scripted to randomly evade
the ASAT.
Required extra addons: LaunchMFD ([ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2802"]Launch MFD - v 1.4.1 for Orbiter 2010[/ame]), TransX, Attitude MFD ([ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3165"]Attitude MFD V3.2[/ame]), and of course
the Project R-7: Early missions ([ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4419"]R-7 Early Missions[/ame]) by igel (Andrew Thielmann). Please read
carefully the manual for the R-7: EM package. In short, at scenario start
press M to disable auto-launch, press F8 to enter targeting dialog and wait
till MECO. If your rocket blows up you're entitled to re-run the scenario.
NOTE: the author of this scenario does not condone weapons in space.
Those who are interested can re-pack the scenario, switching sides
of the launcher and satellites, but are kindly requested to leave
the laucher site location, MJD and the ephemeris of the targets intact
for comparability.
This is a challenge, so please report 1) the target, 2) the MJD of launch,
and 3) the MJD of successful intercept, the sooner the better
(there are plans to delegate this function to a Lua script).
P.S. cannot add attachments in my old Opera, even with JS on.
