Yeah, afaik they are also integrating mockups for Gateway at the SVMF in Houston.

At ESA they already train for geological excursions on the surface of Moon and Mars.

The interior looks nice for now. Damn, if I only could become an astronaut or engineer or "only" a trainer... These mockup facilities already are a blayground for big boys and girls before one travels into space.

It is the old question: is it "too expensive", or is NASA/the program underfunded? How much is space flight and exploration worth?

In my personal opinion and point of view, NASA is chronically underfunded since they had to cancel Apollo 18, 19 and 20. Also, some people use the fact that the manned space program is "just" a giant job program, as an argument against costs and against NASA. In my opinion it is an argument pro costs and pro NASA

I'm never afraid about costs. I'm afraid about people that are afraid about costs I guess I am a lonely tax payer that is willing to spend even more for space flight. The costs per capita are actually peanuts, both in the US and EU.

Well, if you do something in 12 years, that could have been done in 12 months, it gets a little bit more expensive.... but thats something NASA has to solve, in the end, its their plan how to build a poorly scaled, expensive rocket that only politicians wanted. And the politicians should be silent about the costs, because that is the rocket they wanted. If they wanted it cost-effective, they should have let NASA choose the configuration and subcontractors...

That's indeed an issue. The USA actually needs a strong and determined leadership with a clear vision of the future. I don't see that, on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. Currently we are in the middle of a big satire show sadly.

I never really understood how that stuff works until we started having some work and contracts with ESA. No wonder they can't produce anything except good science from time to time.

Yeah, spaceflight agencies and the aerospace industry in general are pretty procedure-heavy and love bureaucracy. Its always a miracle if they get something done. But they have great research projects for developing things with less bureaucracy and faster cycles, which in practical application means that more bureaucracy is caused because the old bureaucracy can't be retired....
