this weekend, while driving to my "C++ for Windows" course, i thought up something possibly quite neat...
what if one were to devise a module which enabled you to attach advanced features to ANY vessel?
this is how it'd work:
you load up whatever scenario with your favourite ship...
too bad, that ship has no VC nor is it UMMU/UCGO compatible....
not to worry - hit ctrl+f4 and select "Rig My Rocket"!
a config dialog will prompt you to select one of a number of different styles of VC, so you can choose which one matches best your ship...
you can also configure the parameters for UMMU life support, crew and all... all optional, of course, you don't need one thing to have the other (you could attach just UMMU, with no VC, or vice-versa)
then just hit the big button labeled "Rig my Rocket!" - the module will create a "dummy vessel" and attach it into the current focus - this dummy vessel has no external mesh but it is now your VC! - it then taps into the target vessel so you can control it as if it was all the same
this would add tons to immersion, i think... :hmm:
i imagine some possible styles of VC would be things like a "nasa-like control room" - with mfds on your console + "nose camera" on the big screen or a "windowless cockpit" - featuring a triple-monitor setup for viewing outside (actually just holes in the 3d mesh, but styled to look like screens)... or "Star-Trek-like command bridge" and other "one size fits all" configurations....
perhaps a little SDK for creating your OWN type of pit
then, of course, any of these cockpits would feature 4 MFDs as well as UMMU/UCGO control panels and some other instruments for gauging fuel levels, and other stuff.... all modelled in accordance with the style of the chosen VC
so while the simulation features are the same, they are presented in different manners, so that it matches the concept of the vessel you're rigging - and provide all sorts of cool features to basically ANYTHING you could fly
i reckon the "mission control room" style is prefect for unmanned vessels and probes
what about that?
